    Hey guys, I am trying to decide between the Everki Lunar Laptop bag (18.4") at Walmart.com: Everki Lunar Laptop Bag / Briefcase, fits up to 18.4" (EKB417BK18): Computers

    or the Slappa Kiken 18" bag @ KIKEN 18" Jedi Mind Trix custom build Laptop Shoulder Bag

    Any suggestions? I am assuming I will be able to fit my m17x R3 and its power supply easily into either bag. They are also both around the same price. Currently, I am leaning towards the Everki bag because of their outstanding warranty coverage (limited lifetime.) I would be losing out on the airport-friendliness of the Slappa Kiken though... as I don't see any mention of that for the Everki bag. Also, it looks like the outside is much more durable on the Slappa bag.... but honestly I am not a huge fan of the dark red interior.... I prefer the orange fuzzy interior of the Everki :)

    At least is here!!

    Nothing to add to Burrito´s info, it fits perfectly, maybe a little fight to extract the laptop (with sleeve). No zipper in contact with it. No ninja turtle (go Dookie , go!).

    As i promised, some photos:

    You serious? It's only that thick?

    Also, I haven't yet made my decision. I think I'm just gonna buy a regular sleeve and a regular backpack and do some kinda padding mod to the backpack. Will definitely be buying a new backpack to replace this Brenthaven, cuz the handle broke this weekend on my trip. Broke while carrying it to the car (it's too heavy for a backpack that's meant to carry only macs, which are only as light as my powerbrick lolz).

    Thank you for these photos. I really like the slim profile of the Astro Scout. Say, is there space inside the backpack/lappy compartment to add padding-mods? It looks a bit slim/slender/lean/weaky in the padding department. Also, how thick is the part you pinched there? How thick is the padding around the brim of the backpack (edges)? Please advise. TYIA!

    Well, we're talking scale again. Along with my tall frame, I also have hands that dwarf most folks. From the base of the palm to the tip of the middle finger is 8 1/4". The padding is about as thick as that Astro Scout padding in the other photo. 1/4" inch, as I've mentioned before.

    Let us know. My stupid replacement still hasn't shipped (5 days late now with no word) and I want to be able to rma the bag if required. Pics/video would be amazing.

    @roykirk, do you still have the velocity bag? If so, can I request some specific pics with r3 in it? I trust your opinion regarding the snug fit, but what may be unacceptable/too snug for you, maybe be fine with me or the next guy.

    My R3 came in today and I quickly packed it, Alienware sleeve and all, into my Slappa MASK Koa backpack. It slid into the laptop pocket easily and the backpack feels great, even when only using one strap. I'm really surprised at the weight of the R3, it doesn't feel heavy at all. Then again I'm 6'3 220 so carrying around a 10lb laptop isn't really a big deal. If you're reading this, great backpack Dom!

    Anyone know of any good sleeves that'll fit our R3s? Good = cheap. Doesn't need to be super padded or anything.

    Hey all, cannot find any post regarding Alienware Orion Backpack and M17x R3 - can it fit into the backpack, or not? Alienware Orion Backpack is supposed to hold 17.3, however R3 has 17.4. Thx a lot.

    There are quite a few people who have that bag and an R3 and they haven't said they have any trouble with it fitting, so I am pretty sure it fits.

    EDIT: I am picking up my R3 and an Astro Scout today so I will let you guys know how I like it.

    Received the Everki Lunar Laptop Bag - Briefcase 18.4" ( http://everki.com/index.php?/18.4-Laptop-Bags/Lunar-Laptop-Bag-Briefcase-fits-up-to-18.4.html).

    The m17xR3 fits great, with more than an inch to spare on all sides... there is no shock-resistant bumpers on the outside bottom part of the bag, like some bags do BUT the laptop compartment does have some extra padding on the bottom section. I was deciding between this and the Slappa Kiken, but I decided to go with the Everki because it looked more professional + lifetime warranty. I'll try to get some pics up later!

    I think I will, since a sleeve wouldn't take up too much space in a lappy compartment of any backpack.

    EDIT: Just ordered it. Will arrive early next week, and I'll letcha know how it is. HOpefully it wasn't a waste of $9 cuz I'd really like to keep my R3. We'll see wassup though after I call Dell tomrorrow. For sure I will call tomorrow cuz I'll have some more time.

    What do people think about the Waterfield notebook sleeves? It's cushioned with high-grade neoprene and wrapped in a ballistic nylon shell similar probably to the Slappa sleeve (also surrounded by ballistic nylon). From all the videos I've seen, it looks a little bit more rigid than the standard neoprene sleeves, but certainly not impact resistant. Anyone have one here?

    In my opinion, the m17x-r3 fits great in a Velocity Pro (Matrix) 17" from Slappa.

    As I said before, I bought this bag because of the plush lining -- the cloth bag thing that our notebook comes inside of actually caused the finish to wear/peel off of my first r3, so I will not be using it at all with this replacement.

    The notebook fits inside nicely and is down far enough that the zippers should never make contact for any reason (other than stupidity I suppose)

    [IMG]

    Here's a top down shot. Notice how thick the padding is compared to the laptop.

    [IMG]

    The intent of this next image was to show the actual thickness of the padding (advertised as 1/4"). As you can see (or can you? Mr. Blurrycamera!) it's actually 1/2" when combined with the surrounding plush fabric; that's double the advertised thickness for the mathematically challenged.

    [IMG]

    In short, I can put both my m17x-r3 and my wife's pink inspiron 1545, both power bricks, 2 mice, a bunch of books, pens pencils erasers etc...2 mouse pads, an emergency shouldn't-have-been-overclocking-at-work screwdriver so I can always reset bios, and tons of other junk. Even loaded with all this crap, it feels extremely comfortable on my back.

    Great product, Dom! Thanks for your help.

    What do people think about this 17" sleeve? SLAPPA Ballistix Laptop Sleeve

    Only thing that I may not like is the hooks for the shoulder strap (I will never use it like this) but maybe I can remove them?

    Torn between the orion and the Velocity Pro (Matrix).

    For those who are worried about the alienware bag causing unwanted attention, its pretty funny. Generally if I was too look for a bag with or without things in to nick it would be a womans mulberry bag or something in that direction rather than the alienware one.

    In all fairness, it does not fit properly if you use place it inside the sleeve that the laptop comes with; but as I said, this sleeve caused the finish of my first r3 to rub off and start peeling.

    Also of note, the laptop compartment does not touch the base of the bag. This adds to the protection imo.

    This is very useful information, thanks! I guess I'm lucky that the finishes on neither of mine have peeled. I even tried scratching it yesterday with my fingernail (the lid), and nuttin, which is pretty impressive. And the original scratch on my original R3 seemed to disappear. I even tried picking at the spot with my fingernail and nuttin. I wonder why it was so pronounced on day1?

    In terms of backpacks, I'm still leaning towards custom padding in conjunction with the $9 neoprene sleeve and watever crappy backpack I can find.

    @Kune, can you post a picture (front, rear, and side views) of the backpack zipped up with the R3 inside? Just want to see up close if it looks rectangular like there's a lappy inside. Also, how much padding is there on the sides of the backpack (the lappy compartment's padding and also any padding on the sides of the backpack?)

    I, for one, am quite grateful for your continued search. Through the posts to this thread I have found something that probably works for me and I wouldn't have found it if your search ended early. I'm the opposite. I am about a foot taller (6'3") and larger and my college days are long past. Your dedication to the protection of your computer have brought forth some great suggestions. I'm happy to continue to read some more suggestions. Let's face it. You need the purse that Hermione has in the latest Harry Potter film where she stored a tent, books, clothes and lots of other things and it weighed nothing. (Somehow I find the image of some guy on a college campus pulling an Alienware out of a purse very entertaining!)

    Hey guys!

    These are some pictures of the free Targus Spruce backpack that was thrown into my purchase! I think its the standard backpack they offer for the XPS17 but my rep assured me this would fit. I do not have my r3 yet, its at least 15-20days away but figured I would post and see what you all think of it!

    edit: Sorry for the massive pictures, first time contributing =] You may need to ctrl mouse wheel out to shrink the page ;) Any tips for future photos let me know!

    Kune thanks for sharing this link with me.

    All, based on the MANY MANY MANY questions we get regarding SLAPPA solutions for the Alienware m17x we have now a blog post which should help answer these questions. Let us know if there is any more detail needed and we'll update this post accordingly.

    Thanks

    I pulled the trigger on the Astro Scout yesterday (once I got the shipping confirmation on the M17x). I will post pics and impressions once I receive it and try it out with the M17x...
    I like the simple styling on the outside- it doesn't draw attention to itself IMO, which is a good thing! :D

    Dom, does Slappa make a backpack that will fit the new M18x? Dimensions are:

    Alienware M18x
    * Starting Weight: 11.93 lb
    * Height (front) 2.09" to (rear) 2.13"
    * Depth: 12.68"
    * Width: 17.17"

    Anyway the Mask can be retrofitted to fit the 17.17" width?

    Thanks.

    I don't know fellas...I have my m17x and my Astro Scout, and while the Scout looks really good, the M17x doesn't really fit in the laptop sleeve. It is one thing to say it fits snugly, and a completely different thing to have to wedge something into a space it wasn't designed for...ie beyond tight and well into "doesn't fit" territory...
    I am probably going to return it unless someone has some bright ideas, or it's late and I'm just missing something... :)

    Does anyone have pix of the insides of the AW Orion backpack?

    Also, if you recall, I purchased a neoprene sleeve from Amazon for $9. It's very nice quality, but the R3 takes a bit of effort to get it in. I'm sure that with time the material will stretch to allow comfortable squeezing in. HOWEVER, like the reviews state on amazon, it has a VERY VERY VERY strong smell of rubber/plasticky. I have washed it in the washer like 8 times in a row, and the smell is still very strong. Thus, I left it in the garage to air out, and when I got home from dinner, hung it outside my backyard to air out. We'll see wassup.

    I'll post pix tomorrow.
