Wondering if anyone has tried this? I am in need of a mouse , was thinking I can use the bluetooth inside the m17xR2 that way I can save an USB slot and not have anything sticking out the side. Looking for recommendations and if anyone knows how well it works?

I've used the logitech bluetooth mouse on my M1710 for years. It's not as robust as their MX series though. It won't work on my shop table, so I have to use it on the lappy wrist guard. It's not a gaming mouse either, but works well as a general 3 button mouse, and good for traveling. I'm looking at getting the mad catz wireless core9 when that comes out. It's wireless, but works on radio frequency, making it quicker, and more accurate, better for games. You do have to plug in a dongle, but it's a micro dongle.

thanks for the info. I want no dangles or anything sticking out of the usb. I travel a lot and I lost 4 or 5 dangles already. With bluetooth I am hoping that 1 less piece i have to worry about losing. Do not need a gaming mouse, this will be used for basic stuff and light gaming.

Like the mouse but a little to small. I think I will run to best buy in a few days and just pick one out. Has anyone have trouble using them ? I never used a usb mouse only headphones in the past. My headphones were easy to sync to the m17x hoping no one had issues with syncing mouses.

My Dell BT Travel Mouse works really great, although it is smaller than I would like. But, hey, it's a "travel mouse" and it is supposed to be, right? I can tell you with enthusiasm that it's awesome not having to physically connect anything to the machine. I also have Dell BT stereo headphones and use the mouse and headphones simultaneously with no trouble. I purchased both with a new XPS M1730 about two years ago. I no longer have the laptop (thank goodness), but still have both of these gems. :)

Like most new things, it takes a while to work out the bugs. I am an early adopter and hated BT technology when it first came out. Now that the technology is mature and so are the devices that use it, I am a huge fan of it. I also travel a bunch and have no problems whatsoever.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the tiny mice OR the bulky USB inserts. My favorite wireless mouse had been a cheap logitech gaming mouse and it had a huge USB insert that was all busted up from being bumped or whatever else... it finally stopped recieving a signal and I was forced to purchase a new one.

The new one sucks... however, it has an awesome USB insert that is very tiny and stick out only about a 1/4 inch. Just enough to grab if needed, but I just leave it in - even in the bag. The mouse itself is a weak tiny temporary solution type thing...

So, the inserts arenn't bad these days.... but you'll deff have issues if you need your USB slots. I don't have a Best Buy anywhere nearby... just a Staples, Walmart, Target and Kmart.... though they do have blue-tooth mice.... they aren't very flashy in my opinion and deff not setup for gaming, especially for their price.

I ended up ordering the Razor Mamba wireless gaming mouse from AW with my m17x... it's here, but I haven't opened the box yet. It's a clear box - it's great eye-candy, but no need to open it until the m17x arrives.

I honestly never thought to check to see if it was blue tooth or not... chances are I will return it, if it is not blue tooth. I can't imagine spending that much on a mouse that isn't blue-tooth. It was an impulse buy... they suckered me in of course, lol!

It just looks great and it has the funtionality that I want - button wise.

I tried the orochi & hated the sharp edges & lag in less than 3 seconds if I was not moving it constantly. Since no one offers a brand name full sized bluetooth mouse of decent quality, I have fallen back on using a Dell bluetooth travel mouse. It is a bit smaller than I prefer, but we have 4 of them for up to 4 years & never had a problem with any of them.

It is regularly priced at $29.99 (+tax & shipping), but Dell has the bluetooth travel mouse on sale for around $15 (with free shipping) every couple months. It is usually the matte black version, but occasionally one of the other colors will go on sale. We have paid as little as $15.19 shipped for a matte black & as little as $17.53 for the glossy cherry red.

Here is the link for each color.

Here is the main link for when it goes on sale. From that link, when it does go on sale, it might be in the "3 day sale" or "accessories" link.

    Good luck!

Have you unselected 'turn this device off to save power' in device manager?

I opened up the Razer Mamba last night to check it out.... has to be the coolest mouse ever. It's big - yeah, but perfectly fit for the hand with several extra (nicely placed) buttons.

It has a cell phone (lithium ion) type battery so I suspect it should run quite awhile before needing a recharge. It does come with a cable to run it wired if needed as well as a charging docking station.

Link... Razer | For Gamers. By Gamers.? | Online Store - Razer Mamba? Wireless Laser Gaming Mouse | Gaming-Grade Wireless Technology | Dual Mode Wired/Wireless Functionality | Razer Synapse? Onboard Memory | Charging Dock | Buy Online

Again, it's the coolest ever in my opinion... nice weight to it too. Nice specs. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

    Another +1 for Razer Orochi.

I too had this issue with the M1730 and now with the AW... and HATE the dongles.

Most manufacturers just advertise as "wireless" but what they don't tell you is if the wireless is bluetooth or their radio frequency thing that of course requires a dongle.

The Razer Orochi is Bluetooth, also has an important feature: AN OFF SWITCH!!!, and if you run out of batteries, just plug the cable to the mouse, then to any USB port and you continue mousing away

Nice, sounds just like the Razer Mamba... going to give it a look-see.

I opened it up last night and I really like it... but I didn't look over the instructions. It doesn't say bluetooth anywhere, but I never saw a reciever in the box... after comparing the two mice mentioned...

The Orochi is bluetooth and has the same look as the Mamba. Also a few less features, but also $50 cheaper than the Mamba.

The Mamba apparently has a reciever and from what I could tell from the pics - seems to be a ridiculous reciever. The docking station is the reciever... so instead of adding bluetooth on such an awesome mouse (duh!?), or giving us the less desired USB plug in thingy.... you have to tote around the docking station and plug it in via USB and have a cable AND docking station to find room for. Bah! It's these little details that are easy to miss that catch guys like me in a bad spot... I REALLY like this mouth, but not sure I can even consider toting the docking station around.

Could someone please correct me if I'm wrong?

I think you're right, just consider that the Mamba was designed for a Desktop Rig... not a portable one... that's why they make the Orochi

Yeah, I didn't even consider that when I bought it. I suppose it makes sense, just doesn't help me. Of course, I bought it on sale from AW for 79.99 I think and I don't remember anything about it requiring the use of a dockign station for wireless signals. Bah!
