Dell recently put up a new coupon code; save $500 on a select m17x.

    Here are the specs:
    i7 2670QM
    4GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    750GB 7200 RPM HDD
    2GB DDR5 6970M
    1920x1080 screen
    Intel WiMAX 6250 networking

    This is $1849 - $500, so $1349.

What's with this? Clearly, Dell is just trying to sell off some old parts, but this config is definitely solid. I've been looking at buying an m14x (i7 3610, 650m), but this caught my eye. Is what Dell is giving here truly a deal? And how would it run compared to the m14x?

It's definitely an R3, whereas the most current version is an R4. Not a bad price, though...if it's new.

The specs are the ones for the R3 that´s why it says select m17. Still a very good deal for a new laptop. I would take it haha. :)

Unfortunately no, the promotion is only for the US at the moment. Perhaps you can get a friend who can help you in the states. There is a thread on how to get it from the US and ship it to you if I'm not mistaken.

So they took the high-end parts of the R3 and stuck it into an R4 case? Classic Dell :p

Is this worth getting over the m14x (which runs $250 more for me)? I'm willing to carry the little extra weight if performance is comparable.

So the case, keyboard, etc. is all that of an R3? Or is this older components in the case of an R4?

i think the R3 and R4 share the same case. R4 was released with different components offered.

dell probably had a lot of surplus R3 components to get rid of.

Honestly, if I were you I would go for the deal, and hey, your concerned that such an outdated system wont last as long as you need it to so ask for a free upgrade to a 3 year advanced warranty  . At worst you'll get a 3 year basic or 2 year advanced warranty on top of the 500 off. Its a cool deal but remember, dell is trying to get rid of these things.
