No this would be for superior overclockability - so that we can Bench better and further establish the M17x superiority over all other notebooks in the world![]()

Can one of you guys run it with GPUZ monitoring the clock rates (i.e. they're still downclocking correctly out of games etc...)?
-
-
Yes I'm half kidding... but that means I'm half not -
here is a test run, if you can run it, can you play WOW and run itunes in the background.
-
Damnit claxdog i'm jealous stop flashing your awesome DPC results! I want those drivers now!
-
Maybe they have removed powermizer & running full bang i hope not.I remember ManuelG stating on Nvidia forum this was not the case
-
I hope so as well. The idea of the cards running full bore all the time is less than desirable.
-
Still isn't clear if future driver releases will have this fix in them.
-
OK. I proposed opening the beta up to about 10 or so NBR members. The reply was that my point of contact had an alternative and wanted to run it by me in the morning. I have a meeting with the Studio XPS engineers at 0800, CST, then I'll jump on the phone and find out the details on the alternative. You know I'll be posting back as soon as I can about mid morning or so.
I'm pretty sure the future driver release will have this fix in them, and I'm pretty sure Powermizer will be functioning as designed, but I'll definitely run that down for you guys. -
-
-
I hope this driver will let me web browse and listen to music at the same time and do this for WOW too, crossed fingers.
-
still dont see how this will help those with ati cards
-
could the update be applied to 9400m only? with xfire off.
-
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
-
I apologize I didnt make my self clear, what I meant was just applying the driver to the gpu(9400m) and reboot with xfire on.
-
and is the 9400m usable with these drivers?
and what about fps in borferlands ? better or worse than with your previous drivers?
cheers -
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
we are still waiting to see what the deal with this new nvidia driver.
-
The 9400 clock rates do not change.... regardless of driver. They are locked.
-
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
-
Right - I was putting that out there in case there was any confusion surrounding the 9400 and clock rates.
-
Wow this is a conundrum, I hope the engineers are working on this for the ATI owners also.
-
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
but lets see what will happen with the nvidias first. -
i dont think its anything to do with the ATI cards as much as the Nvidia chip sets.
-
So I can confirm that powermizer is still active.

Claxdog
Thank you for confirming that. That will put a lot of minds at rest for the time being. -
Actually it would help to take a few minutes and do the tracing test so we can compare the results.
-
Just tried hybrid graphic everything green while surfing and listening to music. Running full screen visualizations in win amp also no problem. As soon as I get my girls of to school and get the wife out of my hair I will run stamatisx test. post my results later.

very promising for the first time. however stuttering in games needs time to test. stuttering is not always related to dpc latency.. high red spikes cause stutterings but not the opposite. i can say that from the ATIs.
if everything is ok i may ask my GTX280s back. -
-
claxdog,
Thanks for the pictures. But we are more interested to see the clocks of the video cards, this is were the problem was. When they change, they tend to cause massive spikes. So are they changing when you browse and listen to music? What are the clock speeds when setting idle? -

May I ask you why do you want 280m back ? I thought that 280m sli is worse performer than crossfire 4870
cheers -
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
i didnt ask them yet. i am just thinking of it. i woudl like to see more tests before. the reason i am thinking of it is the physx.
and you are right 4870s perform better. depends on the game. -
Now I know there is always a way to get stuff accomplished.. Just stating what multiple people told me there.
I already sent my cards back.. Probably should have held on to them for a bit longer... -
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
The difficult part was swapping to ATIs, Not asking for the gpus you legally purchased. -
No red spikes, but I really hate these cards so far. Way more trouble to setup than the 280m cards.
I am going to backup respawn and test the cards based on a factory fresh config tonight. -
I got this in my mail recently and they want me to do this:
"1. Press the Windows Key and R to open the run menu. Type Regedit.
2. If it asks you to permit it to allow the programme to make changes, accept.
3. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet \Control\Video
4. In here there should be lots of entries, with system generated names.
5. Look through the entries, and sort out which ones have a 0000 and 0001 sub entry.
6. Once you've found all of these, open up the 0000 sub-entry and see what's inside them (we won't need to touch the 0001 entries). Most of them will look like/similar to this:
http://s135.photobucket.com/albums/q126/alexrose1uk/?action=view¤t=regeditwrongentry.jpg
7. One of the entries should look different, and have a lot more entries:
http://s135.photobucket.com/albums/q126/alexrose1uk/?action=view¤t=regedit.jpg
8. Now we've found this entry, scroll to the bottom, and in the key window, right click, select new and make a new DWORD. (the 32bit one)
9. Name it PerfLevelSrc (note the capitals are important in all these new Dwords so make sure to include them!)
9. Double click the new entry and write 2222 as the value and click OK.
http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q126/alexrose1uk/newdword.jpg
10. Now make an entry called PowerMizerEnable, open it and set the value to 0.
11. Make another entry called PowerMizerLevel, open it and set it to the value 1.
12. Make the final new entry called PowerMizerLevelAC, open it and also set it to 1.
13. Close regedit, and then reopen it. Your new entries should now look like the below (and should have been carbon copied into the 0001 entry):"
Is this the procedure that disables powermizer and make the cards run on full throttle 24-7? -
Yes, it is but even doing that is not enough, if I recall correctly. -
I strongly urge you to ignore this message and wait for the beta driver post. It will be very soon, and will be the same driver claxdog has been testing and posting about here. -
