UPDATE: 9400 is able to clock down to 200 1240 400, no spikes either
-
Heah, the 9400 clocks do not change. It will not upclock. The only difference visible on the 9400 would be the memory clock - which is your system memory clock. Example: I have 1066 Memory, so GPUz reports the 9400 on my system as having a mem clock rate of 1062.5.
-
u r rite about the memory clock, i do overclock fsb to 1240, what about the other 2 shown in my attachment?Attached Files:

The drivers aren't up yet, are they? I'm not seeing them and the ftp link is broken.

Be careful guys 196.75 is killing gfx and other hardware, if this is just that driver with a dpc fix I would be wary.

I guess I should now go on record and say this driver does resolve the 65+ spike which was associated with the discrete GPUs downclocking from a Max 3D state. As NVIDIA posted:
-
mp3 with visualization + 1 youtube HD + 2 1280*720 videos + 1 on9 radio streaming, no problem
mp3 with visualization + 3dmark vantage, no problem -

thanks for the warning though!

hm.. i was saying something about more steps needed during downclocking or overclocking before months. this seems to be the case here..

This is system is plenty cool.
You'd need a heat-wave of over 95c to put your GPU in danger. The only other issue for Nvidia GPUs is the thermal cycling of 30+ going from 55-to-80, which the M17x's design and thermal tables do not allow.
Anyway, I am glad to hear the reports. I guess some progress has been made, even if others are repeatedly expressing doubt. Doesn't really matter since the downclocking DPC issue has resolved for a good few.
I might even give this driver a shot soon, but that'll have to be over the weekend. Too busy right now. -
btw, no1 else is trying the beta driver? the responses seem cold regarding this -
-
the 196.75 fan issue is probably specific to desktops (the current WHQL notebook version is 195.62)

downloaded the drivers from the ftp but they wont install over the 195.62 drivers on my clevo (it says couldnt find the proper hardware on my system)... i'll try a clean install but maybe i'll need a hand to modify the .inf file?

Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
ok i installed it when i enabled intergrated graphics.
then switched back to ATIs and opening firefox on fullscreen doesnt cause red spikes! but thats all. pdf scrolling and eject button->red spikes
waiting for feedbacks on the nvidia gpus. -
If not, either mod the INF yourself or wait until NV rolls out the next driver update. I believe ManuelG mentioned this would make it into the next NV release (and all future releases as well). -
But most Sager systems are not SLI and have intel chipset so the stutter is not as bad and has mostly been noticed by audiophiles, the average gamer does not notice since his gpu is maxed when gaming. -
Clean installed as i would normally.Looks better on idle for sure tried 1 game some far was playing laggy & less fps than Dox 195.62.Screen is seconds after i shut down mw2 as was playing poor.Early days going to do Re5 bench see how that is.Temps are lower than i had before.

I can confirm that is see no red spikes while scrolling pdf files with hybrid enabled or disabled.

Tried installing them on vista x64. It worked (kind of). I managed to boot one time and reach the desktop, powermizer didn't produce any spikes at all.
But now all i get is a black screen if hybrid is enabled. Right now i'm running on integrated. Did a clean instal (safe mode cleaning etc) so i don't know what's the problem.
Will have to change drivers i guess, i need my 280ms -
If anyone is having this issue (especially under Vista), or:
1. Perform a clean install of 186.82 or the previous driver you were running.
2. Once back on the previous driver and after reboot, run the installer for the beta driver.
Again, you may want to wait for that driver to go live on the support site and see if there are any specific notes re: install -
Just done Re5 Bench & on 195.62 was getting 69.6 Fps dx10 now getting 60.1 with noticeable slow down .
-
Did a careless install of the new driver, right on top of the old one.
Fixed my audio problems. Very pleased! Temps aren't any higher on my system than before.
Good job! -

I have to go to sleep now so i'll just wait for tomorro's news/feedback on the matter. Thx for the advice Batboy

Moving forward, lets post game related issues with this beta driver here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=464841
Better to keep this thread focused on install issues with this beta driver release and DPC related posts only.
Thanks everyone. -
Anyone get the Physix driver that Bill was talking about? I am not seeing it anywhere, linked or otherwise.
-
Its the same as the current release. The reason for the include was the driver does not have PhysX packaged into it.
-
Gotcha, I missed that part of the "translation"...
-
beta driver got me wondering. if its specially made to fix this dpc issue, wouldnt you guys have to stick to this driver forever unless they release another driver that is meant to fix the dpc? i mean i doubt they will integrate whatevers in this beta driver into their main verde drivers
-
And it's still not up. I'll have to check back tonight after class. -
Initial impressions are positive on my end. Largest spike I have seen in use is under 4000. This was a full screen YouTube, 720p, that used to give me 60k readings. I have not really done anything other than that, but will keep everyone posted.
Installation was odd though, until the OS saw the new drivers, I would get terrible screen flicker and artifacts all over. Screen would alternate from red/green/blue and you couldn't make anything out... But now that I have rebooted a few times, it seems to have fixed itself. Was a disappointing few minutes though. -
Thanks for confirming the install behavior you saw trikster. I saw the same under Vista and W7. Although there does not appear to be an issue other than what we observed, as a workaround, http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5974114&postcount=2677
-
Loading my Steam backup now. Will give it a whirl tonight. Will attempt to install my CPU heavy C&C3 later as well. BlueRay drive does not like the disk at all, will take 2 hours to install. -
-
Was this fix for 280m and 260 users only? Or for Ati users as well? and if so any ATI users confirm it worked yet?
-
This is an NVIDIA driver fix so it applies to the 260M/280M owners. The ATI users should not see any change from this new GPU driver. Quoting NVIDIA's rep directly:
http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?act=findpost&pid=1010635 -
Thanks for clearing that up for me Batboy. I guess i'll continue to wait. I just hope swapping my 280s for ATI's wasn't a huge mistake now.
-
Only you can decide if it was or not. If you are happy with the ATI cards then I wouldn't stress. For myself, I prefer NV and am happy I did not make the switch.
-
I just installed this beta driver to see if it fixes the problem for me... but what do I see? This:
Is it normal? I don't feel any stuttering with the sound or the video I'm playing, but it is still showing me that. I did a clean uninstall, using the uninstaller, then Driver Sweeper and CCleaner after a restart.
Also: why the hell do we still have to restart the laptop to switch from stealth to full mode? Can't this just be like with the older version (186.82)? -
Something else is causing that. Are you messing with the eject button - looks really close to that behavior. Might want to see Stamatisx and see if he can pinpoint. I will say this, those red spikes you are seeing are not caused by the GPU DCing.
-
Well since the swap i see occasional spikes between 3k to 8k. No stuttering during video playback or music. I do get the 2 billions spikes when i leave dps lat checker on and bring the laptop out of sleep though. Just hoping they provide us a fix to eliminate those permanently.
-
45 minutes more testing, things are definately better, but not perfect. I still have had spikes upward of 75k, but those are rare now. I can create them with the eject button, but I have had big spikes (4000+) whenever the wireless gets hit the first time. What I mean by first time is I turn on the computer, everything boots up. Wait for the HDD light to stop flickering and launch Firefox. As soon as it starts to download data, I get a string of 1000~4000 bars that last about 4 seconds. After that, I don't see them again unless I am streaming something like video. Next on my list of testing is MP3 streaming with visualizations.
-
No, I didn't touch the eject button.
Just another detail. The video is in high resolution, I think bigger than 1680x1050. -
OK, just did the mp3/visualizations with a 720p video going. mostly yellow bars with a handful of reds in the 35k range. Only noticed one spot where the video paused and at that same time the audio popped just a hair. If I wasn't listening for it, I might not have heard it. Later, I will be trying in game performance. Steam is still installing and I have not installed my other game just yet.
One thing of note, the initial hitting of the wireless to download data is causing 4500 micro second spikes. Almost each time I hit it (like hitting submit here or edit) I will get a spike.
Can someone tell me how to definitively identify which wireless card I have. Everything I keep finding just shows the Broadcom 802.11n...just generic ID. I thought device manager would ID it better...unless I am doing something wrong, which I won't rule out.
