Really wish someone had designed the M17x to be easily repaired. Taking most of the laptop apart to change a DVD drive is just crazy, it's a two hour job for something that took a minute on the M1730. And you also mark the anodised case to get the monitor panel off too!

While I agree removing/replacing the optical drive is a tough job the first time around, the process is rather quick once you have some time in the system. Having owned several different notebooks, including the XPS M1730, the M17x is much more straightforward in terms of replacing parts.

Just my 2 cents. Solid design.

When I had to take mine apart to change the cpu it took me a while and it was a pain, hopefuly never do it again but I'm still in love with the design

Agreed the CD ROM is a bit of a pain, i wish it was like the M6400, one screw from the battery compartment and it slides out, but thats a tray loader not a slot load lol.

The main +++++ for the AW is the location and ease of access of the GPU fans and the CPU fan and how well they work.
