I think it's the one mentioned here:
    http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/disable-windows-update-device-driver-search-prompt/

But since Local Group Policy Editor doesnt exist in this version I can't access it.

Or it's a windows bug. It's just not listening no matter what I do. It keeps auto grabbing the driver again when I reboot.

I go into safe mode, uninstall from control panel and device manager, run driver sweeper with display drivers, run ccleaner's registry fix and reboot and it still does it :(

I have the option to clean install windows with Windows 7 Ultimate, but I don't want to have to do that if I dont need to.

Probably better to just reinstall Windows. Something is not right. IMO of course. Hope you find a fix. Sorry couldn't assist more.

No problem. I probably should do a clean install anyway since updating to A03 and messing around with drivers. I had a few unexplained BSOD's recently that are probably due to corrupt driver installations somewhere down the line.

About the automatic driver installation - better to leave it off for everything? Some of the display driver threads mentioned letting windows install the default drivers before installing the 182.x, 186.x, 195.x.

And is there a way to temporarily enable it for a device if you have to? (USB connected)

trying the steps here - http://www.addictivetips.com/window...tomatic-driver-installation-in-windows-vista/
    gpedit.msc is not available.

so even this one won't work - http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/disable-windows-update-device-driver-search-prompt/

damn, crysis is running bad with the 195.60 (official Nvidia)

i might try the dox version, or even the dell's latest video drivers....
i really wish if i can use the 186.82 drivers and powermizer completely disabled.

I just upgraded to the 195.62 nvidia drivers and my game seems to be working fairly well, granted I'm playing the original Stalker game. I'll give crysis a run and let you know how it is on my end.

    Which crysis, warhead or original?

    Warhead.
COD:MWF2 and Dirt 2 are running very nice. But crysis is just crapping out for some reason with these drivers. im using AFR2 SLI mood which worked well on the 186.82 drivers.

Yeah it's the same problem I've been having with all my games... It's very smooth and then after about 30 seconds it just stops for a few seconds and then goes for 30... stops etc. In fact the most solid drivers I have had so far were the 186.12 drivers

Damn these 195.62 drivers aren't cutting it, gaming performance is no bueno. What would you guys say is the best gaming performance driver or is there an add on/fix I can download such as an added support... although I kind of hate giving up the SLI hybrid mode which works great with these drivers

here is what you need to do.
download powermizer switch, and turn off powermizer using it. Put the performance mode to max power.

this way the graphics card will lock at their max clock speed, shouldnt have any stuttering issues if you do that.

Ughh, I know this works and I'm doing it, but I shouldn't have to to play my games without stuttering with 2 GTX 280m's when I was using the dell 186.12 drivers I didn't have any problems... but I didn't have the hybrid SLI... why can't I have my cake and eat it toooooo!!!!? lol

    tell me about it....

the only real solution for now that works is to completely turn off powermizer. Nothing of the other tweaks and "workaround" really works, they only reduce the latency.

turn off powermizer using "powermizer switch" tool. The cards will run slightly warmer than normal, but problem is fixed with this.

I am not at the laptop right now so I can't take a look to tell you how, but the program itself won't let you continue with the installation if you have the 1510, so don't worry.

On the wireless driver front. I was having the attached error on trying to access the wireless config utility. The latest driver would not install automatically. It said something like non compatible hardware so I installed it using the have disk method. The 1510 card is listed and updated no problem(2nd screen cap). My utility problem was resolved.
As a side note if you think the Broadcom driver is contributing to your DLP_Latency issue you can uninstall it and use the MS driver to see if there is any improvement - screen 3

GadgetBoi, I have that same problem. In fact, after installing the drivers from Dell, getting my wireless to work is a complete shot in the dark. Can you give me a list of steps on what you did exactly to get around that error?

any AMD users care to comment on the Cats? Are they good? How is xf support?

Nvidia's SLI profiles have been great. I wonder if I will lose anything when my 4870s arrive next week.

I just updated the driver so I followed these steps:
    1) Download and unpack the latest driver R249128 but cancel the install when it auto tries.
    2) Go to control Panel - Device Manager
    3) Right click on the 1510 wireless card and choose properties
    4) Choose the driver tab and select update driver
    5) Choose browse my computer for drivers and then choose let me pick from a list of drivers
    6) You will see a window with a 2 drivers listed but choose " have disk"
    7) Browse to the location of the R249128 drivers and in the folder marked DRIVER_US, choose the bcmwl6 inf file and select open and ok.
    8) Now you will see a list of wireless cards from 1300-1520
    9) Scroll down to the 1510 card and select it and hit the next button
    10) It will then update your driver
    11) I did a re-boot and checked the driver version, all was good

    ***REPOST WITH QUOTE FOR REFERENCE***

not sure if this was posted before but to solve the ITE CIR Unknown Device in Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, download and install Dell Driver R232656, then browse to directory C:\dell\drivers\R232656\INFDrv\Win7\64OS and double click on itecir.inf file. Change ACPI\ITE8704 entries to ACPI\ITE8707, save and then go to Device Manager and Update driver. Browse to C:\dell\drivers\R232656\INFDrv\Win7\64OS and driver will now be recognized.

It's either the 195.62 dox drivers, and you can use that to disable powermizer. OR the 186.82. I had better performance in L4D with 186.82 but those don't have power options in the nv control panel.

    I haven't tried the 196.x yet.

I'm trying to connect my laptop through a gigabit router, other devices connect fine with the same cable so it's most likely the laptop.

Even though the device name says its 10/100/1000, there's no 1000 mbps option in the device advanced menu. It doesn't auto negotiate to 1000 as it should. I've tried every 64bit nForce driver I found on nvidia's site. Googling found no relevant fixes. In the .inf file there's no reference to 1000 speed, only 100.

Has anyone been able to connect at 1000mbps? 100 mbps kinda sucks for transferring very large files.

    I'm using Win7 64bit BTW

Can you tell me which drivers you are using?
Also OS version and if it's 32 or 64 bit.

From all the googling I've done, only 64bit versions of the driver seem to have this issue. I guess I'll have to reformat if it's the case :/

Just redownloaded and installed the dell drivers after uninstalling those that I had and they say.

    Driver Provider: NVIDIA
    Driver Date: 4/16/2009
    Driver Version: 67.9.8.0

Which matches what's in the inf file.

    DriverVer = 04/16/2009, 67.9.8 ;Changelist 3839141

I've downloaded them from over here.
    http://support.dell.com/support/dow...emID=ALW_LP_M17X&os=WV64&osl=en&catid=&impid=

Which I believe is the official place to get them. Would you mind providing a link to where you got your version of the chipset ethernet drivers?

No idea what file you're downloading but just went to the Windows 7 64 download for the M17x and the chipset driver file (R232573.exe which extract to R226347... what???) has this in it's readme...

Btw... the link you posted is for Windows Vista 64, not Windows 7 64

What switch/router are you connecting to (i.e. brand / model / firmware) and since it works under ubuntu I guess you're already using at least CAT-5E or CAT-6?

Reinstalled Windows 7 (64bit) and used the drivers on the Dell webpage. It works now. Probably some driver that I installed in between messed the autonegotiation.

Well, I'm still using the last set of nVidia drivers from the Dell website for the 280M in SLI. However, I really never use the laptop unless it's plugged in to an AC outlet, so I'd prefer upgrading to drivers that just do away with the hybrid graphics altogether, but I'm honestly afraid of the steps I need to take to ensure that the drivers install correctly, or what drivers I should use.

As I recently purchased Mass Effect 2, it makes sense to update the drivers to something that has a defined Mass Effect 2 SLI profile. I've also been having continuous crashes in Dragon Age usnig the old drivers (I assume its a driver issue).

Can anyone help me out and suggest what drivers I should update to and what steps I should take prior to updating to a non-hybrid driver? Presently I just have both graphics options in bios disabled so it always loads with the 280M's enabled, unless I forget to plug it in.
