The default RAM is now 6GB! WOOT!

I hope it's not 4GB + 2GB sticks, that's pretty bad imo...
-
I don't think anyone does 3GB sticks do they? If not then it is 4 + 2GB sticks
-
Yeah unfortunatly, i'd rather go with the exact two RAM sticks (2x2GB or 2x4GB), preferable out of the same production cycle, which are normally sold as a set.
-
I know its best to have ram sticks that are the same.... but a 2GB and 4 GB must be better than just 2x2GB sticks. Right?
-
Well that's more or less only dependant on the application that needs more RAM than 4GB. I wouldn't be very comfortable to have for example different sizes, different manufacturers, different frequency, different production charges and whatnot. Maybe it's just me, but as the RAM works in Dual-Channel together, i just prefer the even split instead the odd one, to exclude as many influences on instability that may occur using two different sticks.

From what I remember from school, dual channel memory is like raid 0 hdds. They must be 2 of the same size. Dual channel is the ability that some memory controllers have to expand the width of their data busses from 64 to 128 bits.
2+2=dual channel
4+4=dual channel
2+4=single channel -
Yeah something like that, GetFound
Here what i read from Wiki, which include my concerns and describe them a bit better:
Dual-channel architecture - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
-
Not entirely correct.
2+4 = 4GB dual channel, 2GB single channel. -
Is that the so called FlexMode?
-
Yes but they don't advertise this though :/ Whereas with 2+2 they advertse Dual Channel
-
I wouldn't believe in advertised information too much
PS: Regarding your sig. The advertised Beyond HD is and should actually be Beyond FullHD which is over 1080p -> 1200p RGB LED Display -> 1440*900 Beyond HD | WRONG -> 1920x1200 Beyond HD | Correct
-
I'm confused
So I need to right ''Beyond FullHD''? :O
Would be nice if you wrote what I should have in the sig
-
yes, infact if you put 2+4 and go to bios you will see dual channel but it is 4GB dual Channel + 2GB Single channel
-
CptXabaras Overclocked, Overvolted, Liquid Cooled
....also here (mexico) they are selling it with 6Gb standard... 4Gb not even an option anymore... and of course mine is in production... with 4Gb...
-
HD is measured in height IE 720p 900p 1080p 1200p anything above 1080p is beyond full HD anything less is less then full HD
Generally speaking your resolutuion, and mine, would be as less then HD -
Even with a 1080 monitor?
-
I don't really know, becuase on the one hand (assuming your running eyeinfinity ) you have way more pixels then 1080p but on the other hand your still running 900p but just a lot wider.
-
As of 11/21, in the US, the default is 4GB.
-
Its not dual channel, its flex mode or some variation of. But odd that it shows the 4gb dimm as dual, flex only duals the matching amount. I.E. the first 2 gb in the 4 gb stick would be dual since it matches the 2 gb stick.

Looks like an intel smoke and mirrors trick, I wonder how effective it is.
*Edit* Wait a minute, I had 2gb +4gb before I got my second 4gb stick and it was NOT dual channel. It isnt listed per stick, just dual channel or not. Why'd I get left out here? lol Doesn't really matter now that I have 8. -

As long as you display is 1080p, you are in HD
Your M17x display is not 1080p which means not HD, while your external display is. -
Just delete the "BeyondHD" after the laptop resolution, as only 1200p is BeyondHD, to imply that 1200p (16:10) is more than FullHD 1080p (16:9). And that's actually what Dell advertised it's 1200p RGBLED display, as BeyondHD, not the lower display. Hope that clears the confusion.
