You ordered on December 4th? I hate to say it but if it shipped that quick it is a possibility it's a refurbished product. And the 4th was a Sunday so I would be suspicious if my order only took two days to make when it usually takes at least a week. Mine is a rush order and they said today it just finished boxing stages and is getting ready to ship tomorrow. I ordered on December 2nd so that's about a week. Check it when it comes because if you paid for a new one make sure that is what you got!

New ones I think usually ship from Texas but that is also where the repair center is. So maybe all the same place. Check it for any dent, scratch, and if it's new it will smell new. I know that sounds weird but yea the smell

All new orders are assembled and shipped from the factory... China. There are no assembly/factories here in the US. There is only one place your AW system is built and its behind the 'Great Wall'. ;)

If you are in North America, your system ships from China enroute to a Dell location here in the US and from there, its shipped to its final destination (your doorstep).

I hope so. I thought i would have gotten an email of notification or something. Another thought is because it's a replacement order it won't send me those emails. So ill just keep watching to see if In Production go to Shipped.

Sorry dude, but I'm not surprised. Honestly I raise an eyebrow every time I hear someone say they managed to "expedite" a build. The agents have something of a habit of saying things like that when a build is underway or close to completion to make you a happy customer, but I've never seen an example of it actually arriving faster than the average.

I had issues a while back with an order and even got it to the level of Alienware's CEO (nice guy indeed, very helpful)- my order still didn't arrive any quicker.

I researched the theory of the laptop being shipped but still says in production. Some people have said that even after they got the system it said in production. So I'm sorta hoping it will arrive tomorrow. The free gaming mouse they ordered today because the one I originally wanted was on a 4 week backorder, that shipped in like 3 hours

Sorry to hear that dude. As I said though, I have a very strong suspicion that the Dell reps are told to simply give you good news as much as possible (even to the point of not telling you the truth, or making stuff up).

I'd put money on you getting this machine ON the original EDD as it was on the site the day you ordered.

Well you mentioned the order was placed on the 2nd. Mine was on the 6th with an EDD on the site (for everyone irrespective of order) of 19th. So, 4 days off that gives you an EDD for you order of 15th, which is Thursday.

    Nice...

I had to cancel mine to get a better deal... (saved £170 on the unit due to the video card price drop and got £188.50 by placing the order through topcashback :) ) so ended up placing the order Thursday AM, got an order acknowledgement same day.

Unit is in Pre Production with an EDD of the 20/12

Im going for the alienware m17x, yet im stuck between these choices for cpu and graphics card.

Im not planning on upgrading the laptop so i want it to run atleast for 2-3years.
Laptop use will be mostly for games and business.

Is the upgrade for the 2760QM and 580M worth it? or will the 560M run games good enough for the next couple of years?

Would be nice to run future games on high/max settings with good fps.

    Any advice?

the most cost effective config for gaming is a 2670qm and the 6990m.

If you are stuck on nvidia, then the 2670 and 580m. CPUs are easily upgraded for a fraction of what dell charges if you do it yourself. They are plentiful on Ebay and cheap. You can use my guide (in my sig) as a reference

and get the 1080p screen or you'll regret it after :)

If you want max and good fps over the next few years, I highly recommend the 580m. The 560m struggles even with todays games. As for the CPU, depending on what kind of business you do, I'd say just go for the lowest option. You can always upgrade that later on.

So go for 2670QM and 580m. You'll be set for a while.

    Thanks for the fast replies!

Im not stuck with Nvidea but i read that the driver updates are a mess for the 6990 and that there are still some heat problems with it, and since the prices are the same atm, i thought the 580 was the better choice here.

As for the cpu, my laptop atm has an i3 and can barely run the programs i need, so im sure which ever I7 will be able to run it without any problems.

drivers are a mess for dual config xfire rigs...not for single GPU

And with the 580m, you have to deal with throttle hell. You're not clear either way lol

Haha alright, I think im gonna go with the 6990 then and the 2670QM.

Was deffo going with the 1080p screen. What about the 120hz btw? Is it worth it? or is it mostly for the 3d?

The 6990M and 580M cost the exact same now (on the UK site the 6990M is about £10 more though) :)

The 2670qm is more than enough for gaming also.

And as Slick said, single GPU configs suffer from no driver issues.

If you want 3D then you have to go with the 580M + 120Hz screen.

dude, get the 580 if you want it...just be aware that you'll have to take care of the throttling with some solutions that you can find here and probbaly have to repaste with some good thermal paste. That's why i always tell people, if you're not a little tech savvy just be aware of the things that you'll have to do with the 580m

if you go with the 120hz screen you'll have to go with nvidia. doesn't work with the amd card. Personally, you'd only get the 120hz screen if you want to go 3d...but 3d has to render the frame twice which effectively cuts your fps in half. So imo its not feasible on a laptop.

I actually went for the lower rez screen. The machine's going to be connected to a TV or a 27 inch Cinema display most of the time - when it's not, I'm happy to run a lower rez.

The 560 would be fine. I have an alienware aurora that I bought 3 years ago and that graphics card is older than the 560 and it plays all my new games on high just fine. I had to upgrade the ram and I wish I could have gotten a better processor so if I had to choose it would be processor before graphics card.

oh nooo!!! just go for GPU if your main reason is gaming, processor 2670 does not differ a lot from 2760, if you have spare 200, definitely go upgrade CPU too, however GPU first (IF gaming!!!)

    What he said....

Most games are GPU dependent.... not CPU...
