I just checked, 10.3 drivers extract to c:\AMD\10.3blahblahblah. point mobility modder to there. all other catalyst drivers go to c:\ati\support.

If you install 10.3 no mobility modder is needed. This is the new beta where ATI is supporting mobility cards now, Dell included.

During driver installation, Win7 will ask to consider ATi drivers, even if not certified, as good...

Well I've tried all this with no success. I followed your instructions, disabled the dual HD4870 cards, deleted the drivers, installed and run ccleaner (thanks for this program :) ) and then extracted and tried to install the 10.3 CCC. It loads up, lets me pick a language, next I hit the install option and ............... nothing. Nothing at all happens. So at the minute I'm left with massive icons on my screen and my desktop all over the place lol

thanks for help anyway guys - Im gonna go back to the original drivers I had and then try to fix BFBC2. It wont let me join a server. Great having a $3000+ laptop

So let me get this straight, If I download the 10.3 ATI Catalyst drivers from AMD's website and install them on my M17x-R2 with dual card configuration I DONT HAVE TO USE MOBILITY MODDER? Just install it from the website because it supports Mobility Cards now including Dell's?

yes. choose custom install. on the subsequent page, if the graphics driver is there and can be unchecked, it means its going to be installed and was detected as compatible with your hardware.

This is a pickle. I'm not quite sure what is going on to be honest.

have you done a clean installation of windows 7 by formatting your hard drive or are you still running the version of the OS that you get when you receive the computer from dell?

YAY, no more modding with mobilty modder :) Should work with the new 5870 cards coming out to huh? And how is AMD able to do this? I thought they made everyone use the vendors graphics drivers. Why all of a sudden a change of heart to support their cards with their own drivers? Nvidia does it so is AMD taking a hint?

it might be because its a beta release they dont have to follow the rules?

we'll see when 10.3 goes live.

Is the first post on this page kept up to date? Are all the links the most current working drivers?

Is the Command Center link correct?

Doing a fresh OS w7 load.

    Thanks

10.4 is out, downloading now. Hopefully these will install for me as 10.3 would not!

Nope, same problem as before, the installer will only show the option to install CIM and VC 2008 runtime. WOuld be nice to know exactly why so many of us are having problems getting these to load, Dell/Alienware didn't opt out, did they? I haven't seen anything that says that but I'm kind of at a loss why they simply will not install...

I haven't had any problems installing the ATI drivers. I just updated to 10.4 two days ago. I did the usual uninstall of the old driver, ran Drive Sweeper and CCleaner in Safe Mode, then installed the new drivers. Everything seems to be working fine for me so far.
