    Heya fellow M17x owners

With Call of Duty: Black Ops just round the corner, it begs the question:

How well will our m17x's handle it? Even with CF 5870m? Max and smooth FPS? or damn right bad FPS and medium graphics.

Thoughts on how it'll perform people? :)

Both Modern Warfare 1&2 work well on my m17x so I would of thought it should work well. I can run both 1&2 on high graphics. There's a bit of lag every now and again but very playable.

I'm hoping it will be smooth on Max graphics. :)

assuming it is the game graphics engine and looking at the minimum requirements, yeah, m17x can handle it, easily I must add

<3 That's very nice to hear. The game looks SO sweet. If you don't mind me saying, what made me really hyping about it is the new gun colours like Gold and Chrome Silver. Also liking the holdout mode sort of thing that is rumered ^-^

We had XPS M1730 users running Modern Warfare 1 & 2, fully maxed under a single 8800m GTX. I ran CoD 4 the same way, and with a bit of overclock on the card, I even added 2xAA.

The thing to remember is that these games are derived from the standards of console hardware. Although quite a bit different, the console hardware in greater terms is old tech even compared to the gaming laptops of 2008 with their single 8800m GTS GPUs. Given that most folks here would like to run this game at 1200p resoluton with everything maxed out, a single 5870 should still be more than enough to ideally handle the game.

I don't think they changed the graphics engine around so unlike crysis, this game should be able to run max setting on either setup, but def on CF setup.

I max out BC2 with only a single 5870. Black ops should be no different.
From what I've seen so far BC2 is more demanding anyways

I'm running Black Ops at 60fps with some dips to about 40fps during heavy combat with all of the graphics settings completely maxed out (16xAA and max AF). Turning the AA to 4x or 8x would probably smooth it out to a constant 60fps all of the time. It is the same engine as MW2; feels exactly the same. Game seems like it's going to be awesome, and better be considering the price.

It was laggy at the first level but after applying a profile it ''detected new hardware'' must have found the 2nd 5870. Plays very well but atm I'm in a secluded place.

    Hi,

i am having the same freezes as sabaku. Don't know if its internet/steam related or not...

The Frames are shockingly low in my system (920xm+4870 x2) I get around 30-40 fps, which is less than i have with crysis!

any suggestions besides waiting for the new dell driver? :)

As for the crashing issues have you tried fiddling with the CCC?

thread title changed - due to the number of blackops threads popping up, this will be the discussion thread for BlackOps as it relates to the 17x (both R1 and R2).

When posting on issues, please be sure to specifiy:

    1. Which model you have (r1 or R2)
    2. What the issue is
    3. Current display driver(s) installed or tried
    4. in-game Graphic settings

stevenxownes792 posted suggestions in the 11x thread - not sure if they will help but worth checking if running into issues on the 17x.

    1. Lower steam priority in task manager to low
    2. Raise or Lower game priority to either High or Below Normal. Some folks reported the game had much lower lag and video issues on High, others said Below Normal worked better.
    3. Make sure vsync is disabled.

    Thanks.

Thanks BatBoy for consolidating the threads.

I was wondering how it played on the R2 as well. My system got shipped out for service today and I've been trying to play it on the M11x R1 fairly unsuccessfully.

With the use of TAA and MLAA I have managed to get the game to run at full with the equivelent of 48x AA with a minimum FPS of 45. I'm gob smacked tbh. This game must handle AA really well. In MW2 I got slow-mo lag quite badly at 16x AA. This I get no lag of such at all.

I used RadeonPro to create a custom profile with my own options ticked.

    Also thank you BatBoy. :)

I bought the actual disc and best buy, and than it installed Steam for me, so I guess now I have an actual account. I'm very Stam dumb since I've never used it. Hard to use steam when your in Iraq, and buy all boot leg games :p I could have bought 34 games, for the price of just this one! But, can't miss the COD series! Love these games. Gotta wait for the M17x though :(

Lol, DR650SE. When I first read your post on this page about how unsuccessful your game time on the R1 was - I didn't see the M11 before - i was super bummed thinking I won;t be able to play it on my M17x R1. Now after reading your latest post I realized you were talking about the M11 and not that you'd have 2 M17x.
Happy again, waiting for the last 6% @ 1.6KB...

I just installed Black Ops on my M17x R1 4870 CrossfireX (10.10 drivers). There seems to be no difference in settings or resolution that I apply. Game runs at 40-60fps and has suddens drops to 15 fps every 5 seconds. I tried running 800x600 -> same thing happens there. I also tried disabling my CrossFire to see if it made a difference, but no luck there. It must be related to drivers.. Please post your results if you have different drivers other than Cat 10.10. Thanks

I'm just curious here - but is a high AA setting even necessary @ 1920x1200?

    @martini -
Did you try using the Dell driver?
    http://support.dell.com/support/dow...dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=415565

How is performance with that driver?

Ok, it took me a while to install those drivers. They don't seem to install automatically, so I had to go thru device manager and do it manually. Black Ops seems to run a little better with drivers from Dell, but not significantly. Fps doesn't jump as much as it did on AMD drivers, but I get lower fps overall. Running 12XXx7XX resolution with no anti-aliansing and no vsync I get 25-45FPS. That's horrible, considering I would get 70-80 with single 9800GT playing modern warfare 2. Something's wrong here or it's time for a new comp.

I'm at 1440 x 900 and have an ext. Monitor that I haven't tried yet. I just wanted to see how it would run really. It does run very well but an odd issue is that my FPS dips for about 30 seconds then rises back up again causing' ''Slow-mo'' lag. This was before my profile adjustments and such.

Just got this from other forum. Hope it's not a crime and it helps someone.

"for those of you who are having issues. go into steam/common/call of duty black ops/players and edit the config.cfg and config_mp.cfg

    look for the following strings

    seta r_multiGpu
    seta r_multithreaded_device

if you have multigpu, set the number after multigpu to 1 (although for some reason, its set to this by default, change it back to 0 if you only have one card)

if you have a multicore cpu (who doesnt in this day and age), set the number after multithreaded_device to 1 (god knows why it was disabled to begin with).

in my case, setting the multigpu to 0 (i sold one of my 5850s a while ago so im not running crossfire) and multithreaded to 1 reduced the amount of 'freezes' dramatically. havent had any freezes in a while."

    5870 X-Fire/920XM
    BlackOps from Best Buy
    60-90FPS
Lots of crashes and freezes here and there
    Multiplayer is laggy too

    Same game as MW1-MW2
BFBC2 is much better in my opinion

Fixing the strings has almost eliminated my freezing too. There's something awry here though. My GPU fans never kick into high speed, and my temps never go above ~55°C. With no AA and all other settings cranked all the way up, I'm running 45-50fps. The game isn't fully utilizing my hardware.

Same here regarding GPU temps/fans. It seems that GPU doesn't recognize BlackOps as high end 3D application and never increases the clock speeds. Most people have this issue, I think patch will be on the way shortly.

Use CTRL+F to find the string. The CPU one really does make a world of difference. And to add insult to injury, I'm running better with one GPU. I got it to a whopping 60°C. Those guys owe us one epic patch.
