    Hello

today I opened my M17x to clean the dust off the CPU vent, and eversince the screen stays dead and i get a POST led blink like this: scroll blink - caps lit - num blink. According to support this means something is wrong with the LCD, its cables or the video card.

I checked again and again the LCD cables are in place so I don't think that is it. Can't say about the screen itself but why would it be dead I didn't even remove it...

I am able to boot into windows blindly, I can tell because i can turn AlienFX ON or OFF. If I can get into windows, the video card must be alright no? It boots on the 9400m btw.

So what would you guys do if you where me? Beside calling support of course lol (it's the next step).

    Thanks for your help :(

you need to triple check the cable, it's *very* tricky to get to snap on correctly. if it's not making a snap noise, it's not in.

It sounds to me like your screen isn't plugged in. Make sure it isn't plugged in backwards. Happened to me on my inspiropn 1720. But make sure it is properly seated. Both cables. I'd try once again. It happened to me when I replace my R1 CPU at 4:30am when i was exhausted.

Edit: Lozz had faster fingers lol

First of all thank you for your answers :)

The thing is I have tried so many times to put the two cables correctly that I just don't know how else to try, but at least it gives me hope nothing is broken. Do you agree that the 9400m is ok if i can boot?

Are you guys speaking of the cable on the left or on the right? Because i'm pretty sure the cable on the right i get right every time, it makes a distinct noise and I really need to pull to get it off. If it's about the left one, then I must agree I'm not too confident about it.

How would you describe the feeling of putting the left one correctly into its slot? Sometimes it looks in but i can remove it without effort, does it have to make a click on its right and left side?

Sorry if I go into such stupid details but I have been taking this machine apart from 4pm til 11pm... I'm overdosing, if I take it apart one more time it is to succeed and knowing the screen connectors are not the issue

the longer one (on the left facing the laptop forward) is the harder one. The smaller one (on the right) wasn't real hard to get on. Remember it needs to 'click' or snap in. Until it comes on, just don't screw anything in, and it'll make it easier if you need to take it back down.

    Alright, good news!

I finally managed to get this stupid left connector to fit as it should :)
lol I guess I looked pretty stupid this morning when I looked at that thing in every possible angle to figure out what I was doing wrong.

I cannot say I know exactly what I did right this time... but I tried to make sure the metal pins on the side (the one coming from the tiny metal bar on the upperside) went in.

Thank you again for your help regarding this issue, I really was starting to suspect an hardware failure. :)
