Hey guys, I've been having this problem with my R1 for a while and it's just driving me nuts.

I have a secondary monitor hooked up. Whenever I plug something into one of the USB slots on the left side, the laptop freaks out and changes the resolution of the main monitor to 800x600 and switches the screen resolution option for multiple displays from "extend these displays" to "duplicate these displays."

I can fix it by going back into Display > Screen Resolution and changing the settings back, but it's such a hassle to do that every time I plug/unplug a USB device.

Anyone have any idea what's going on?

What about the USB ports on the right? It does the same thing with thems? Also, how is your secondary monitor plugged in, DVI, VGA?

I would say there's either an issue with the Nvidia drivers or the windows device detection api. Unfortunately I have yet to find a way to force Windows to choose extended displays over duplicate displays.

@radji I tested the USB ports on both sides and it seems to be affecting only the ones on the left side, strangely enough. The secondary monitor is connected with a DVI to HDMI cable, the HDMI going into the m17x.

And thanks, both of you, for the suggestion on a clean driver installation. I'll try that and see if it solves the problem.
