After doing a clean installation of win 7 using this guide http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...er-install-order-guide-alienware-systems.html (not the first time), when i ran the command center for the first time, all the FX light went dark.
I tried to restart and and i got two errors. I installed it using the file from the Dell site, and the Microsoft .Net framework is up to date.
help will be appreciated!![]()

Hello, GrassCube.
Command Center depends on .NET Framework in order to function.
What you need to do is uninstall Command Center and reboot.
Download .NET Version Detector and download and install the missing versions in order.
Reboot and install the latest version of Command Center available for the M17x not an old one.
Which version did you install this time?
Let us know how it went. -

I would recommend you to uninstall and reinstall the command center first of all but following this guide.
-
Tnx a lot guys, i'll try it right away and let you know how it went.
I was wondering, what has changed since the last time i did a clean install, i have done it numerous times and never i had to deal with something like that.
I have read e few posts on this forum and Dell about the same problem, almost all of them and in replacement of the MOBO or some other part (the controller, i think). Im really worried about that, so i wanted to ask what are the chances that something went wrong with the component that controls the lights, and dose all the light connected to the same controller.
Im asking about the chances, because the FX lights worked perfectly even after i did a clean installation and got dark only after i installed the CC and tried to launch it for the first time.
Downloaded the detector, ran it and i said that i dont have those versions of .NET
1.0
1.1
4.5
I installed the 4.5 and now it says that the 4.0 version is updated to 4.5.
There is no link to 1.0 and when i tried to install the 1.1 i got a compatibility issue, so i canceled the installation.
Can i install CC now or i need the 1.0 and 1.1 versions?Attached Files:

No need for them, just go ahead and try the CC now.

While i wait for a reply i thought to write step by step what happened that none of the FX light work.
-Formatted
-Installed the drivers using the guide i've mentioned in the first post
-The last thing i installed was the CC
-Rebooted (the lights are still on from the theme i had previous the formatting)
-Ran the CC for the first time, it asked me to update the version, that's what i did
-After the CC finished updating, it gave some kind of notification regarding some hardware and asked me to continue or not, i choose continue (i dont remember that it asked me that all the other times i did a clean installation, i wish i paid more attention to the content of the notification because i dont remember what it said)
-The CC icon on the task bar was red (red eyes) so i right clicked on it and turned the FX on, thats when all the lights went out (from that point the light dosnt work)
-Rebooted
-When the OS came up i got the error from the .NET and something about unidentified USB device
-Tried uninstalling/reinstalling CC in various ways, using guides from this forum and dell's and every time it asked me to choose my laptop model (never had to choose before this problem) nothing worked
-I though to try and reinstall all the USB devices and i got some errors with some of them (attached pic untitled3)
Can i somehow unplug and reconnect the FX light, because i understand that they register as USB devices.Attached Files:

A)
Give it a cold boot. Shutdown machine and unplug the battery. unhook the power cord. now put AC power back in (without battery) and turn it on.
B)
1) Windows+R -> Run -> devmgmt.msc -> Enter
2) Expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers" (must be the last one in the list)
3) Select one by one all controllers and delete all of them
4) Wait for some time and they all will come back automatically, should not take more than 5 minutes
5) Reboot... does it work now ?
C)
Switch the Graphics Card from external to Internal. Use BinaryGFX to switch the cards and once done you should be able to see the colors back to life. If not then do this.
a. Shut down the machine completely
b. Remove all power source, battery and AC power
c. Keep the power button pressed for 15-25 seconds while there is no power source to squeez out any power left
d. Put the AC power back in, do not plug in the battery yet and turn the system on
e. Hopefully you have the lights back, now you can put the battery back.
One last thing, try to update the drivers of the ports used by the FX light. If u got the resource CD that came with the R1, run it and run the Bluetooth driver installation. I dont know why but on my machine the drivers for the light are installed together from the Bluetooth installation.
If u dont have the CD try to download the installation file for the Bluetooth driver from here Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States] just use the service code of ur system.
I know it is a bit strange that u need to run the Bluetooth installation but that's what worked for me, until the break down -
thanks for info if this works u going to be my heroooo.
ok i gave all your options a go and fx is non exsistent still like the program runs but no options, zones, or color selections or anything show up and i wondering if i need old cc or what but i also got this message.
See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

Well m8, i think we are both on the same damn boat
If u did everything that was suggested on this thread and nothing worked, unfortunately i cant help you.
At least u got your lights on, i cant even use the touch panel for the volume, Wi-Fi, ejecting the CD... LOL
What the hell is wrong with the FX lights!?!
I did everything on this thread and others i found, nothing works!
Can someone pls tell me what's wrong, im getting really frustrated and annoyed, all i did is to install the damn CC!!! -
Can someone pls help me!!! it cant be that a whole community of Alienware owners and nobody experienced something like this and cant help or suggest something.
If i need to buy something from ebay, take the laptop apart, connect and reconnect something, ill do enything, but give me something. I live in the damn state of Israel and im out of warranty and we have only one 3rd party tech lab for the whole of Israel, who deals with Dell products, so as i said if i can fix it myself pls say how!!!!! -
