    Hello everyone

I just completed a full reformat of my M17x R1.

Trying to obtain all the most up to date drivers. Been trying to follow this guide

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...m17x-r1-r2-owners-lounge-thread-part-1-a.html

Though it directs to to M17x R3 drivers?

Drivers & Downloads | Dell UK

I manage to find the R1 drivers, but they are extremely outdated (3 years old + !)

Also, should I upgrade the R1 BIOS of A07 to R3 BIOS A12?

Can someone also kindly help me on the latest Nvdia Geforce 280M SLI drivers, obviously outdated and unsupported again, how do I get the most up to date, modded driver?

    Thanks in advance

    Gerry

stay with the r1 bios update. r3 bios is for a different motherboard.

as for the gpu problem, you would need to get a modified .inf file for it to work on our systems. laptopvideo2go.com is a good place to look.

    Hello Pinoy,

    Thanks for the reply.

Ok, I will remain on my R1 BIOs A07.

I have 2 major problems at the moment.

    1) Black screen after 'Starting Windows', I assume that is a graphics driver issue. Is it recommended to install the WHOLE package, such as 3D and the update, or keep it simple, such as the driver and physx?

    2) My Ethernet internet died (wireless is ok), been reading around the forums its best to uninstall the Nvidia Ethernet driver, though this only applies if you want the wireless internet to function normally?

    Thanks all

    Gerry

The black screen issue might get fixed using the DELL video drivers, even though they are outdated they are really stable.
Did you install the Chipset driver?

I am no pro at this, but I just recently updated my m17x r1 to sli gtx 260m's(it only had one). Apparently i needed to clear the CMOS to get the laptop to recognize the new configuration. Until I did that, it either had a post error, or went black screen at windows boot(did this mostly). After CMOS reset everythings fine. Maybe try that. also i read at some point that booting with battery out changed the way the laptop either posts/boots, not sure which?

at a certain point i suspected the original gtx260m or the new one was dying. try clearing cmos with NO video cards installed and see if you boot. Next i put in the old video card and cleared cmos, booted fine. then i put in second card, cleared cmos and it booted all three times. in affect i eliminated the graphics drivers, and all three video cards as the problem one at a time.
