    Hi,
I don't know what I'm talking about, so please be patient.

I believe the fan is rattling on my right side 260m. It only happens on gaming when the fan actually kicks in.
I looked on Ebay for 260m's, but I only see cards that have no fans.

Now I'm thinking that the fan is separate from the card. What do I look for to order.

Sure I can take the laptop apart and look at it, but the R1 video I saw amkes me think that I should leave it alone until I actually have the fan to put in.
Those little keaboard cables don't seem to like being unplugged and plugged back in multiple times.

So, I came for the gurus's help.

Is That fan for the 260M a separate part? Where can I order one (Ebay?) and a part number would be much appreciated.....so I don't break something while trying to get at it.

Right now my laptop central fan is on as I type bit not the GPU fans as there is no strain on the 2 cards. I can however hear it ticking there on the right side. When that fan kicks in, it's like a bumble bee on drugs flying
around between a venetian blind and a window :))

    Thanks for the help

PS....Title is "of"....won't let me edit mof

Talking to Dell....they're considering selling me an extended warranty for one year as of today for $368....and tax I presume.
Then I guess they'll send someone in to look at my problem, not sure yet what their plan is.

They won't give me the part number for the fan and just tells me that parts for my Aliienware are very expensive.....it's a plastic fan.

Oh well, patience is a virtue :)))

.....probably not a bad thing keeping my dirty hands out of that laptop anyway.....lol

Hmmmm.....after being on the phone with Dell for 45 minutes waiting for them to authorize whether they want to sell me an extended warranty or not, they inadvertantly disconnected me.
That is the truth, I decided to stay on the phone and see how they would play this out.

Anyway, back to square one I am......square 2 because I surfed up some stuff while waiting.

I really don't want to open this thing up just to look at some numbers on the fan, but I will tonight if all else fails :)

I found some numbers while surfing:
    1) M17 fan : DC28A00144L ($123 for shipping to Canada...lol)
    2) E1705 fan : DC28000020L

    and then the Jackpot....

    3) M17x R1/R2 right GPU latop fan/cooler .....Dell Part # F605N......adding another part number # BATA0812R5H,8.418CFM

Had to add that Left side fan P/N is F603N

    Thanks guys :))

Hello, Jamesh11, here you'll find the correct part numbers for the M17x fans:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...-m17x-r2-gpu-fan-replacement.html#post9027122

You should disassemble the system only if you feel comfortable about it and at your own risk. But personally with a bit of patience it's feasible even for someone with minimal knowledge about this.
If you decide to do it yourself instead of taking it to a specialist, i advise you to consult the owner's manual found in the Owner's Lounge (stickied in the M17x sub forum) and watch these two videos:

M17x Teardown Video1 of 2 **READ SAFETY PRECAUTIONS PRIOR TO REPLACING PARTS**

M17x Teardown Part 2 of 2 **READ SAFETY PRECAUTIONS PRIOR TO REPLACING PARTS**

PS: Took care of the thread title too ;)

    Now I am confused.....

Right hand side GPU (laptop's left side) Fan:
    KSB0705HA-8J02 - Delta Electronics KSB0705HA-8J02 Cooling Fan
    or
    BATA0812R5H P002 - AC Adapter Compatible parts

Left hand side GPU (laptop's right side) Fan:
    KSB0705HA - Delta Electronics KSB0705HA Cooling Fan
    or
    BATA0812R5H P001 - AVC BATA0812R5H Cooling Fan

So if I just ordered a right hand side GPU fan I actually ordered the left side of the laptops fan?? Which incidentally will be the wrong fan....

Left & right for this sort of thing refers to how you see the parts once the bottom cover is off.

I.E. The left fan assembly would be the right hand side of the laptop when regularly using it.

Unfortunately it does seem like you ordered the incorrect part, if you did it through dell send me a PM and I'll help you sort things out.

    Still confused,

.....because the R1 you apparently have to take the keaboard off as well as the little plate above the keaboard
in order to get access to the GPU and ultimately the fan. Yes you take the bottom cover off to get access to the screws that hold the keaboard on, but it seems that after that everything is done from the top of the keaboard. (Laptop sitting the right way up)

I didn't order through Dell because they cut me off after me hanging on for 45 minutes while they decideded whether to authorize an extended warranty or not.

Anyway, I just ordered the other fan as well, that way I will be sure to have the correct part.
