Hey guys, I think it is time to upgrade my RAM on my Alienware M17X R1 and I want to make sure I am not doing anything stupid.
After reading a while over posts and stuff I found out that the max is 8GB for the R1 which is perfectly fine. I currently have 4GB so getting my system to 8GB will be enough.

My question is what is the top frequency I can get? i have the 1333 now.
Can i get 2x4GB 1600 or 1866....what is the complete max? And who is the best on the market?? what brand? any of you done it already?

    Thank you!

Pretty sure that's a mistake, R1 cannot support past 1066 MHz DDR3 RAM.

I'm also sure I have seen other users using 1333 and working just fine. That's why I want to know for sure what is the best i can get!

Honestly RAM frequency makes little to no difference at all, unless you are benchmarking 24/7.

The M17x (R1) does support and was even sold with 1333Mhz sticks.
I used to run 2x4Gb Kingston HyperX in mine, downclocked to 1333Mhz from 1600Mhz.

I would honestly say just buy another stick of matching ram to the one you own and move to 8gb that way it will make the upgrade the easiest and could be the cheapest option . Also Judging by another thread that was started the other user couldn't get his laptop to start with 1333mhz DDR 3 and had to revert back to his old DDR 3 1066 mhz .

Then try the 4Gbx2 1333mhz. If it does not work is because the max officially supported is 1066mhz.
