It's no mystery to any of us that the M17X's trackpad has some deep-rooted issues.
Dell Almighty resolved this for the R2 with a new BIOS update. Unfortunately, the R1 continues to stagnate -- since the A03 bios -- with obsolete updates that are about as relevant to the notion of improvement as Tommy Wizeau's 'The Room' is to post-modern art. Indeed Dell Almighty does have a convoluted sense of humour, releasing these slow worthless updates that only perpetuate our throes of disillusionment.
Now I own two R1 units and one of them is running Windows 7 while the other R1 -- my primary unit -- is running Windows Vista. I always found that the trackpad was actually smooth in-game with the machine running Windows 7. I am interested in hearing some ideas on why the touch pad is just juddery in one of the machines and relatively smooth in the other unit. Any thoughts, people? Despite its issues, can other R1 users verify my experience? I know the trackpad has problems, but does it actually move smoothly during in-game scenarios.

I don't use the mouse in-game, but I did have problems in Windows 7 with it not responding well at all. I ended up opening the Device Manager and unistalling it from there with the Delete option ticked, and used Windows generic drivers. It works like a charm now. Hope this helps Kade.

Yes so i played around with my touchpad today and noticed this:
with drivers installed it does cause some minor problems nothing serious,BUT with the default windows drivers works great and NO issues.
BTW try playing rpgs.shooters etc with the touchpad even photo editing is a pain with it just MO. -

Katalin, which system are you using? I assume the R1, but do confirm.
Thanks for the feedback. Fact remains that Dell did resolve this issue for the R2 owners. It had something to do with th ping-response -- call it whatever you want -- that needed rectification. With the R1, this issue remains, and people report problems.
This is why I brought up this topic because two of my R1 units exhibit differnt levels of the problem, which also makes me wonder whether or not one of them has an actual fault in the touchpad hardware as opposed to a poor refresh-rate.
