    Hi all,

Looking for some advice on an issue I've got with my M17x R1.

The LCD cable (from LCD to the motherboard) was broken so I replaced it. Initially it worked perfectly, until I once closed the lid and the laptop went into suspend mode. When opening the lid, the screen stayed dark. Right now, I can start up the laptop and it seems the screen does not turn on. However, after some time I can see that the screen is on but it is very very dark. I can just see some lighter parts where the OS windows appear. Any clue what might cause this? I've tried reseating the cable numerous times. Adjusting the screen brightness does not do anything.

    Thanks for the responses.

Was this still an issue before the LCD cable was replaced? If not, try doing a fresh format/install of windows with all the drivers, maybe you have some display driver conflicts. But, there is also the issue with the LCD itself, a lot of the non-RGB LED screens in the M17X-R1 are Known to dim over time, it happened with my R1 screen - but I just had a barebones M17X lying around for parts and a screen swap fixed the issue.

If it's the LCD I would highly recommend to upgrade to an RGB-LED screen, the picture quality will blow your mind and you will not have issues with it: Dell Alienware M17X R2 Wuxga LED LCD Screen Complete TOP LTN170CT08 J2CY8 9PHFF | eBay

IS it dark in the BIOS as well? Seems like a dead LED light to me or a cable not properly seated.
