    M17x R1 has different hardware structure from m17x R2?

    Hello everyone! I have some question!
    I'm from Ukraine, we have no any Dell support here, when i have been to USA i've bought an Alienware m17x R1 laptop with the next specs:
    Processor: Intel Core Quad qx9300 2.53Ghz
    Videocards: GeForce GTX 280M SLI
    Hard drive: RAID 0 SSD SUPER TALENT 256x2
    LCD 1920x1200
    8Gb 1400Mhz memory OCZ/

    But i have one problem - i want to upgrade my laptop to R2 condition!
    Please, who has ever had an Alienware m17x R2 tell me is there any hardware architecture difference comparing with R1 model?
    Because i want to Order motherboard R2 and HD 5870 x 2 And i7 940xm and put it all together in my alienware hard case by my own!

    It would be far cheaper and easier to buy an entirely new R2

    i think that new one will be cost approximately 3600 dollars with that specification. but if i will buy videocard on ebay per 320 dollars each, 940xm processor -500 dollars and motherboard -500 dollars= 1600 dollars. after that i will sell all my previous stuff - moter r1, both gtx 280m sli, qx9300 quad

    Not a bad idea. Though I'm not sure if it will eventually be cheaper (you could sell your R1 for ~2-2.5k, get an R2 for ~2.5k with i5 and get a 940XM for 500$).

    From the hardware standpoint, -
    I had both R1 and R2 and messed with the hardware to this level to say, the R2 components should fit the R1 case (most likely).

    Yes it's good idea too - to buy an R2 with i5 and then buy 940xm-thanks! ... but i think it's hard for me because of my far distance from US....

    Yeah, if you can't have a warranty on your system in Ukraine, that's gonna be a tough call. These systems do have issues periodically and repairs are costly and painful. You probably already know that, since you got the R1. ;)

    Defiantely easier and cheaper in the long run to just sell the R1, and buy the R2, maybe from the dell outlet.

    Warranty for me isn't a problem. Because everything i can repair by my own. just order details and done it. My Alienware is awesome machine - half a year have past since i've bought it, any trouble since that time. I'm happy that i've bought an alienware - Dell -the best quality ever.

    DR650SE - Your m17x R2 configuration is my dream!) can You say something about productivity, benchmarks - for example some games like gta 4. I'm video editor-and it's very important for me. thanks
