Hi! So I've had this problem for quite a while now,

When I boot up my R1, everything will start up - the keyboard will light up, the fans will start and the disk drive will start etc. however the screen will remain completely black. even my mouse will light up. usually i'll just force turn off my laptop and turn it back on and it will work again.

however this time, i was just on the internet and everything just froze. so i restarted it and now the screen won't light up at all. even my mouse won't light up this time. What am I supposed to do now?

I really hope this isn't a hardware problem cause it would be a real pain to ship this laptop back to get it repaired.

    thank you!

unplug the laptop, take the batt- out, and press the power button for one minute. do not put the batt- back in, but do plug the machine in, and turn on. If you can get to Bios, reset to default settings, and reboot. OR in the Bios settings, make sure the HDD is the first on the boot option list.

good luck, oh, and pleas tell us if it worked for you =^_^=

Edit: I have heard of many people running in to this problem, and it seems to happen when a CPU is not overclocked correctly. So if you are overclocked, try to boot up with default settings.

This happens to me on and off. Usually happens when I use SetFSB to OC my cpu, but it doesn't happen every time. Wondering on a fix for this too. Even if I put all settings at default for clock rates etc, it will still happen every 3rd boot or so.

Man, something is wrong there... you may want to get a tech to take a look at it. 33% boot failure is a problem if you are on default settings, and may lead to bigger problems.

Meh I haven't Overclocked it or anything - but removing the battery won't do anything. the screen still stays completely black :/

what's worrying me is, when this usually happens my mouse still lights up. but this time it'll just stay off. really don't know what's wrong. >.<

Do you get ANY boot screens? Like press F2 to enter BIOS? If not, your screen is either dead or unplugged. Try plugging in another monitor.
EDIT Oops, just read the whole post. Run SIW or PC Wizard and see what temps are doing. And do this with another monitor plugged in if you can. Just in case your screen goes out.

But I can't even access anything on the laptop! the screen just stays blank, how am I supposed to run it? :/
tried with a separate monitor, it just acts as if i didn't connect anything to it.

Try unplugging ALL external devices like USB and battery. Hold the power button for 30 seconds and try booting up again with AC power only.

Ive had issues with USB devices stopping the machine from completing POST

I had this same issue after my laptop was shipped from the Dell Outlet! The main screen cable (the one with the metal latch thing) wasnt seated properly even thou pressing down and wiggling it there was no play. It took me like 2 hours to work out that was the problem. Just for good measure blast all the connectors out with compressed air (the reason i took the plugs out totally in the first place) Good luck!
