    Hello all,
I previously made a thread about why my M17x R2 wouldn't work and we came to a conclusion that it was the mobo, but I was wrong. It was infact the right GPU.

I tore it down and took out both gpu's. It beeped at me 2 times i believe.

I put the left GPU back in and it started fine with no issues (I was jumping full of joy!)

I then put the second 5870m into the right bay and hooked up the Xfire and the problem occured were nothing turned on.

So.. Do you guys thing the card is dead?.

    Thanks in advance.

Have you tried to put the "dead" card into the left bay?

Sounds like you may need to replace the secondary card. Is it still in warranty?

This would be a great idea, problem is that the secondary card comes with the Xfire cable as part of it, so it wouldn't fit in the left slot. +1

Actually that's not completely accurate. The crossfire cable can be removed from the card and the card will fit perfectly fine in the left slot.

If it's still under warranty it's up to you if you want to mess with removing the crossfire cable (I believe you have to remove the heat sink, but the cable simply unplugs), and then swap to the left side to see if it boots. Remeber by doing this you'll have to swap the heat sinks from the left card to the right card however.

And I wouldn't recommend booting it without the heat sink installed...I'm sure it's possible, but I wouldn't recommend it. To do this the correct way, you'll want to remove the left card, remove both heat sinks and the crossfire cable...place the primary heat sink on the secondary card, put it in the left slot and boot from it.

If it does..then the problem is likely not either card, and could be another motherboard issue.

    Good luck to you.

Yeah you can definitely try it this way, if you use the left video card's heat sink it should fit perfectly. Nice call!
