Unfortunately my beloved M17x R2 started showing screen flickering and then suddenly all greenish display with different lines. And now after switching it on, no display comes on but after a few minutes, it will restart by itself.

Tried plugging in different monitoring via VGA/HDMI but nothing comes on. Is it the video card or something else?

All I did was update the ATI Radeon graphics driver running windows 10 and disaster happened the next day.

I've partially disassembled it, cleaning the graphics card (Did that previously as well) and everything looks okay so not sure what is the real issue.

    Any suggestion for me please?

pretty sure its the gpu, dying after a driver update should be coincidence, or there would be a lot more dead gpus :)... what gpu did you have?

It is ATI Mobility Radeon HD5870.

It started with small screen flickering specially when minimizing and maximizing. And then suddenly it went all horizontal lines of various colour and partial black.

Any recommendation for a very cheap graphics unit which will let me use it for office/web browsing only. Don't want to throw the whole unit as it was perfect for my day to day work.

cheap... 260M, 4870M should be fairly cheap and good enough if you dont game. I have a M5950 if you'd want that. It's about the same performance as 6770M and only consumes 25-30W.

    Try baking your gpu.
