GPU card 1, back left vent, gets around 195*F or around 90-97C full load.. is that bad? too hot? the metal part on the vent feel like it could burn my finger if I were to hold it there

Those temps. won't kill your card but they are high.
when was the last time you cleaned your heatsinks or repasted your GPUs?
If you don't remember i sugest you take a look at the teardown videos of the m17x and clean the dust off of your heatsinks and while you're at it get your hands on a thermal paste tube (whatever brand doesn't make a big difference),remove the old paste off the GPU and heatsink and apply new one.
After that you should see lower temps and be up and running again just fine. Remember patiance is key.

I get about 81-82 C on my Crossfire Dual 5870 setup.
If you can burn your finger on the vent, that is really not good (I think).
I recommend you to invest in a good laptop cooler, repaste the gpus (Arctic silver 5 will do a great job) and clean out the dust stuck in the vents.

I hope this helps, and I wish you the best of luck.

What should my temps be at? playing wow? currently 550/887 and gpu temp is 86c with 70gpu load and 30% fan speed.. never moves from that point.

I see your problem now. The fan speed should not be 30% at those temps. My gpu fans kick in on high when the gpu reaches the 80c border.

I recommend you to give Dell a call, and inform them of this issue. Let them check if everything is ok with that fan controller.

And i bet you are reading that 30% with cpu-z.......

Download hwinfo32, ignore gpu-z. Hwinfo32 will show actual (and real) fan speed (rpm's). Fan reading from gpu-z it's a fake, at least on laptop world.
