It's a fairly easy to process to upgrade the drivers: nvidia INF modding - quick guide (x64) - YouTube

Simplest way to go about it is to go on eBay and download the 680M driver's from the seller UpgradeYourLaptop, who has a link on his auctions for a 680M or 780M. Then download the latest notebook drivers from NVIDIA. Be sure to copy the information from the 680M drivers you download from eBay into the latest NVIDIA drivers and not vice-versa.

    3 -Download NVIDIA DRIVERS 326.19BETA

    4 -Install Nvidia driver.

5 -Installation failed "No compatible device found">close dialog.

    6 -Browse the extracted Nvidia folder (C:\Nvidia)>open Display.Driver folder>paste/replace nvdmn.inf file.

7 -Run setup.exe within the extracted Nvidia folder. (green icon .exe)

8 -Select custom install>next>Check clean install option>uncheck Nvidia update.

    9 -Reboot.

    nvdmn.inf (unzip) http://forum.notebookreview.com/att...2_r3_r4_m18xr1_r2_gtx680m_gtx780m_v326.19.zip

10 -Exit windows 8 test mode

    11 -Repeat/replace with "bcdedit /set {current} testsigning no" reboot.

Sorry to be off topic but I think 332.21 WHQL just killed the 680m in my M17x R2.
After installing the driver and finishing a Heaven benchmark, once i closed the program my screen just went black. I could still dim or brighten the "black" by using Fn commands.
I tried restarting the laptop and it seems to be running post BUT BLANK SCREEN, I know it loads windows normally as webcam loads alienface-log-on and lights up to recognize face..
Fn brightness still works... though its just all black.

I tried reinserting my dying 5870m and it worked,
I then proceeded to do a system restore while 5870m was connected and did a DDU driver sweep.
Restart was good, windows 7 still loaded normally so I tried reinserting my 680m.
Turned laptop on, same thing happens. Blank screen that I can dim or brighten with Fn keys.

All FX lights are on, no blinking or beeps whatsoever.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated x_x

I killed my gtx 680m the same way you did. I plugged an external monitor and it worked for 2 more minutes, then it would not even POST. However, I know someone that managed to get it working by pulling out the bios battery and putting it back. I think his was not fried yet, but it was acting the same way. Hope you're as lucky as he was.

It's the mobo battery, it's not a CMOS, but I think you got it right...you can't miss it. I don't know where it is placed in the m17x/m18x, I have an m15x.

GF v332.21 is fine, when OCing it requires +12mV (780M-1006/6000) to keep previous versions clocks 331.93/331.82, I'm using Quadro 332.21 WHQL stock voltage/ runs cooler and it reduces fps spikes.

Good question, it's listed under Supported Products here: Drivers | GeForce

While the release notes call out improvements to specific games in the 700 series I'd imagine there's still some benefit to us 680 owners - downloaded and installing now to play with.

(I've been using the 332.21 drivers since they were released as they don't seem to kick the fans up as much, idle very cool and performance is good.)

Hi, I have a little bit of problem with installing drivers for my Alienware 17 with 680m in it. Up till 335.23 i was able to install drivers simply by enabling testsigning as well as editing the inf files. However, installing any newer drivers would result in the screen blinking followed by " Force to reinstall graphics driver" popup as seen here http://i.imgur.com/yvPhlHx.jpg. Is there any solution to this?

edit: i forgot to add that when installing the drivers, I was also prompted to enable active-x/plug in which never happened before with my previous driver installations

It's not nvdmn.inf anymore, Nvidia replaced/renamed 'nvdmi.inf'. Post hardware Ids.
