What about m18x R2 users with cf 7970m. . Do they witness the same under-utilization?

Farcry 3 is very badly cpu-optimized.
Disable vsync, see if it helps, or lower details to see if anything is particularly stressful on the CPU. I've read about people with 4.8GHz ivy bridge quad core desktops having had to overclock because 4.5 wasn't enough to deliver 60fps smooth.

    Thanks for the feedback neklec.

It's really weird whats going on with my setup then. What driver version are you on?

I'm running the 13.11 beta v9.5's. I've even tried 13.8's as that's when AMD introduced the frame pacing and still no change. The game is patched to v1.05 so I don't know what else could be causing it.

I'm not sure but I'm also suspecting the XM might be causing it. But the difference is minimal when overclocked and running stock.

I'm running dynamic vsync with RadeonPro so vsync is off until 50hz. Yeah I know its a terribly optimized game, I'm just shocked that I'm getting such low GPU load in CrossFire and no proper scaling. I might as well run it single GPU as my minimum FPS is better.

I use 13.11 b 9.2, I also tried 13.11 b 9.5, but it seems they a little worse. Frame stimulations always off because this option only worsens a situation in my opinion.
for each game it is necessary to select the driver!
    Nospheratu
You try for Far Cry 3 13.3_Beta3 or 13.2 b7, you will be surprised as game smoothly runs.

Nvidia is about to release 870m GTX on february, let's hope AMD will do something about it as well, I would love to make use out of my modified GPU heatsinks.

For now, even when I know I have 1 heatsink mod completed, i don't have 2 things still, time to test it and .....will to take apart my R2..again

Working for 12 hrs a day or longer to cover Christmas expenses......

880m will be equipped with a whopping.....8 GB of ram :)...For what ?

Thanks. I didn't have any of the drivers you mentioned but I did have 13.4 WHQL and I did notice GPU usage increase to an average about 68% on each card. These cards just blast the screen with FPS, its crazy the amount of power these cards have... but the stutter is so horrible that the game is unplayable for me. Actually, I never realised how awesome the frame pacing was until now. So basically it seems that the GPU's are working more intelligently now with the frame pacing which may explain why the GPU load is lower ie. not rendering those runt frames.

My theory then is according to my system spec there's only so many FPS the cards are being allowed to render without causing stutter to occur and when I disable CrossFire that same amount of FPS is being rendered by a single GPU as it has the power to do so. When I enable CrossFire the same amount of FPS is shared among both cards and therefore reducing the load on each GPU... makes sense? Somebody correct me if I'm talking nonsense or missing a key point.

LOL you remind me of the members on one of our local forums who coined the term CUD, Computer/Compulsive Upgrade Disorder :D Its all over that forum, even credit cards have turned into "CUDdit cards" :p

I only wish I could work overtime to pay for some of the things I really want, so count yourself lucky :)

Yeah I also think those massive amounts of RAM is pointless. I can see it possibly being useful with the 3k/4k laptop screens that seem to be on the horizon but even that is overkill. That GPU has to be ridiculously powerful to game at that res with decent graphic settings.

I have no problem picturing 2x 880M SLI running 3k/4k resolution screens in future laptops. Same goes for R9-290M.

I do have problem though...maybe in 2 years...

I do not see any possibility of any mobile card within 2 years to be able to let alone support 4k on a laptop own screen, not to mention to run smoothly any modern game..even on lowest effects.

Ummm... why not? The 780m is equivalent to desktop GTX-680, and two of those cards can go 4k no problem in what I believe is 95% of all games maxed out. You're already using supersampling 4x in a ton of games (equivalent to no-AA 4k), and it's not like it's a tragedy to dial graphics down to High, instead of Ultimate. 4K is around 4-5 times the pixel resolution of what we're using now, but the rest of the assets stay the same. Future games may optimize around high-resolution, delivering good gameplay even on mainstream cards. Do you realize what the resolution of the iPad Retina is? And what device it's running on?

4k is great for everyone imo. Yea, it'll be a slight hurdle, but trust me. With the cards we're running? We can sure as hell afford 4k gaming.

Didn't get to test yet :D Also fearful. And they wouldn't be overdrive enabled, the two overdrive bioses we have are made by svl7.

    Hehe i see why.

The biggest reason for beeing sceptical is the hassle of getting new card that will work if anything goes wrong.
Its not that easy anymore to get cards that will play with the card we would have left.

Ill have a look at my third card that is mostly dead. See if i can find out what is wrong.
Perhaps i can make it work enough to be able to just try to update the VBIOS, and be able to revert again from DOS as a second card.

I have done a test of my power consumption now.

I peak at 310W for my setup.

This with 975 voltage on the GPU. 900/ 1300
26X and 105W (With that clock i get apx 95W) Stock bios. (The heaviest OC on my CPU gives at least 15 W more)
Stock voltages on GPU or even overvoltage would increase more.
Higher clocks will also increase more.

Ill check for normal gaming use over time with more normal settings. (25X and a bit lower GPU speed)

AMD Catalyst 13.12 WHQL is out.... Yay

Apparently its the same 13.11 beta v9.5, just the WHQL version... at least we won't get the "unsupported driver" message in 3Dmark :p

Use a download manager to get the file as AMD disables the download if it sees that you aren't being referred by their own site. Or install a plugin for your browser like Referer-Control for Chrome. Add "http://www2.ati.com/DriverS/mobile/*" to the plugin's site filter.

After installing the plugin go to Chrome Settings->Extensions and click on "options" for the Referer Control plugin.

Add the line below to the site filter

    http://www2.ati.com/DriverS/mobile/*

Then click on "Custom" and then "Target host". Then set the Referer Control status to Inactive and Active again and you should be good to go.

    Guys :hi2:
What account at you in 3dmark 06? At me 20550.
    Why so it isn't enough?
For information! it is possible to edit our vbios the VBE7 program. Only 022 not to change voltage, clock possibly to change. Dell 021 and clevo 019 can change voltage and clock!
P.S. It I too experimented on pain of death :D
At first I asked a question at a forum, nobody answered, then crossed and flash mod vbios! :twitchy:

    sangemaru ,
Yes, I know that 3dmark is too old :D.
Simply I to sell my m17xr2 and
    one guy asked, - "what account 3dmark 06? ".
I don't know for what it is necessary for it?
Please, you could check what account at you in 3dmark 06? Simply I looked on a site notebookcheck and there about 25500-29500!

I edited vbios VBE7.0.0.7b and at me everything changed, voltage in 022 only didn't change, can because UEFI?

If I want to go much higher i have to go above my 975 voltage GPU settings.
My setup works now quite perfect and i dont wanna change much.
Did do another test just for the H of it on 27X CPU and stock GPU.
apx 23500. I guess 25500 is not out of the Question, but neverever as stock.

Yes I use T-stop, without this program CPU there is a rigid trotling and fps in heavy games falls with 60 to 15.It happens to clevo bios, to dell bios of it doesn't happen, but there is a stutter!
At you also if not to use T-stop?

P.S. You do overclock blck in Bios?

We have to use ThrottleStop to optimise our experience with the 7970M's imho.

I'm back to the beta v9.5's. Had a lockup at a loading screen in FC3 which isn't unusual. I alt-tabbed out as per normal to close the crash window and start up the game again and received a BSOD. After the reboot I was stuck at the login screen and the screen was flicking rapidly... never had a single problem with the any of the beta's except for the 99% bug. They go and screw up the one WHQL they put out after 6 months

Oh, that reminds me, I still need to get a DAC and a pair of decent speakers. Anyway, I finally got on the SSD bandwagon myself. This thing flies so fast it's unbelievable.

Neklec tried it as well. Afaik, he never managed to enable SLI in control panel, but I'm not sure. I don't know whether or not a more recent version of hyperSLI + modded inf drivers would work, but I wouldn't recommend it on this machine.
