Alright, so today, when I turn on my laptop, only half of my screen is functioning. To make a long story short, I've narrowed it down to the lcd cable. If I wiggle it around, the picture will be displayed fine, but there is definitely a problem with it. My laptop is no longer under warranty so contacting dell is probably not an option.
Can someone please let me know where to go to find a replacement cable? I've checked ebay etc, and either come up with nothing, or mislabeled products. This is really urgent as a lot of important stuff is on that computer and I can't really access it without a properly working screen.
Thanks in advanced!!!

Pretty sure the cable is soldered to the monitor, but I am no expert on displays. Just connect an external monitor and deal with it or rip out the hard drive and throw it into an external HD cage to back up your data.

nope it's not soldered to the monitor. There is a connector. It looks a little bit like this:

Obviously different than mine because that's for an older Area 51 alienware. Do you think dell could sell me one if I contacted them? -
Dell might but it will be difficult to explain to them what part you exactly need (I have actually given the exact part number for some items and they still sent the wrong thing).
I remember there was a thread in the "components" for sale section where someone had a bunch of R2 parts (crossfire cable etc..) and I think I saw a cable similar to what you posted.
Cruse the Component FS section and see what you cant find (the tread was something like ... a bunch of parts ..... etc..)
Good luck

I would hook it up to an external monitor to get your stuff off of it

Thank you guys for all the help! I've been doing a lot of research and done some more experimenting with the laptop and it turns out to be that it isn't the cable. Instead it is the connector for the LCD cable on the screen itself. That is having the problem. So it looks like I need a new screen. I would buy it through dell, but I've found another site which is much cheaper. . . . except they sell M17x R1 screens instead of R2 screens.
I know I'm asking a lot, but can someone who owns an M17x R1 possibly take off the metal back cover to their screen and post a photograph of the area where the LCD cable connects to the screen? This would help me out immensely! And I will give as much rep as possible where due to anyone who can do this for me. I'm counting on you guys! -

I will do it for you when i'll get home(on the phone ATM),don't worry!
But are you sure don't want to look for a RGB LED assembly instead? -

Thanks guys for the help! Blasterbeam210, is your screen RGB? And Katalin 2003, if you could do that, it would be awesome! I'm not looking for the Dell part number here because using that number is useless when trying to buy from Samsung and not Dell.
So if you could tell me the Samsung part number which is listed on the back of the screen, that would be awesome!
For example, the 1440 by 900 dual CCFL screen's Samsung part number is LTN170BT10
