It's not, it's the same Samsung panel as always. Just a newer revision of the same old stuff.

When did you buy it? You already should have the new screen though. Check your order sheet that came with the notebook. It should already say Ultrasharp truelife. Also you can check on dell's website the specs of your machine when you enter your service tag number in the check warrenty section.

If not, there shouldn't be too much difference between the screens, if any. The screen you have is still awesomes. So no worries. I'm pretty sure you have the new screen though. Cheers.

I did check it and it show " 17IN WIDEUXGA 1920 X 1200 - BE " on Dell website, not anything related Ultrasharp truelife, but I just curious about a new one... :) and thank you for your information!

I'm a bit confused what is exactly new here. Is it the "Beyond HD" screen or the Ultrasharp, or the Truelife addition?

I ask because I looked back at the various M17xR2's I've gotten from the Outlet in the past couple of months, and they ALL showed as "17 inch UltraSharp WUXGA (1920x1200) RGB LED Display". And, I ordered a couple more super cheap ones today, using the latest 20% off coupon, and they also were stated as "17 inch UltraSharp WUXGA (1920x1200) RGB LED Display".

So, it seems the Ultrasharp part is not new (at least in the US), so is the Truelife part the new addition they are charging $73AUS for and is the "Beyond" screen just what we have now as an Ultrasharp 1920x1200 RGB LED?

Personally, the screens that have been coming from the Outlet are spectacular!

That's as much as I've managed to pull really, imo until I see some proper pics it might not be worth it. Could be gimmicky, could be worth it.. like I said, won't matter to me.

    Thanks, Jubbing.

That was some good info. I too contacted Dell and it seems that most if not all the screens we got were already the Ultrasharp truelife screens. So it should be all good. It seems all that really has changed was just the manufacturing date between screens from last year and this year.

The screens however should still have the same sharp quality. Unless they have released something cheaper in the AUS then the extra $73 dollar screen should of already been the default screen. So it seems its just another one of dells marketing gimmicks. Trying to get customers to fork out another $73 for what used to be the standard screens. Just my guess anyways. Both screens should still be awesome quality.

Other things I had noticed on the AUS dell site was the 740qm processors; they've been available for a while now though.
8GB DDR3 1333mhz ram is also now standard as of a few days ago. Something that would really catch my eye though would be the availability and options to configure some Nvidia GPU's on these spaceship machines ;) :D
Also another strange thing I find is on the AUS site the battery doesn't seem to come standard. You have to tick the option and then pay an extra $106. Unless the notebook already comes with the battery and that is another option to purchase a 2nd battery?!

    Cheers.

    JubbLing? ;)

Well I checked it at well the x40's have been there from some time, and the 8gb RAM has been standard for a couple of weeks now (1 or 2+). The battery is the optional 9Cell Battery, you already get the 6Cell one.. but they do kind of trick people into thinking it needs a battery.

1TB Hard drive is now standard as well. They's certainly giving you more without lowering the price.. I'd rather the other way around.

What actually surprised me is the Dell guy could give me an answer, usually they're like um.. let me ask my manager or some bull nonsense. Even if he might have a sheet in from of him, this guy was from Malaysia, not India or Philippines, so they're usually better.

Oh woops Sorry bout that. Edited your name in correct spelling now LOL :D

Yeh surprising you actually got an answer ey eheheh.
I didn't select the 9 cell $106 upgrade for the battery. However I'm pretty sure I ended up getting a 9 cell battery anyway. ;) I checked the specs and it was exactly the same as my R1s battery. Unless I'm mistaken and they both are 6 cell LOL . WOOPs eheheheh. I agree the battery is pretty much useless in these machines however they do make for a great UPS backup. Also it saves me all the time because I am always knocking out the ac adapter lol or it keeps falling out.

Its good to see 8gb is standard ram now although ram prices are dropping like gold and currency prices lol. They seem to just go up up up and then down down down. eheheh. :)

It would be definitely nice to see a couple hundred knocked off the price or so.
