I was wondering if dell/alienware still used the LG RGB screens in the R2 or did they go exclusively with the samsungs? The reason I ask is because my R2 has a samsung and I also own an m6400 covet which has the LG RGB. I prefer the LG due to it's whites or I guess due to the actual light source being more uniform without dark patches. The samsung, especially noticeable on white backgrounds, has what I call slightly dark patches. Like the bottom and top is a little bit darker than the middle.

Anyway the LG looks superior in my opinion (when it comes to whites, any other color and they are the same) and it's a bit brighter, although to some of you it's too damn bright but not to me. I was wondering since I will be returning this notebook if I could order an R2 and specify the LG as my RGB panel of choice? And if not, how difficult is it to open up the R2 and m6400 panel to make the swap, both are E2E.

As far as I know it's exclusively Samsung. Swapping between the panels shouldn't be difficult at all as long as they use the same connector, which I suspect they do. You can find the instructions in the M17x technical manual on Dell's website.

I had the RBGLED Samsung matte screen it was utter crap and so hard at times to calibrate it correctly, my god did it have so many reds!! It killed me thank god the screen got fried when the hinges and bezel was being replaced lol The LG rgbled is so freaking bright and has amazing whites, pure white, i was shocked i thought it wasn't even rgbled, plus the edge to edge glass is the way it should be, and not a brick and so thick like the m17x. It would make more sense to just use the LG one since it's more superior. Both machines at times are a lot of work to do, so be prepared and also have patience.

Ah so that was you. How difficult was it to get the actual lcd out from behind the E2E? Have any tips?

It's not me, but I'm interested in finding that person as well.
Would like to remove that E2E cover and cut a frame in it to make my screen anti glare, lol :)

Yes thanks, there's a good chance that may be an LG. I sent an inquiry to him about the model/manufacturer.

If anyone cares the model of the LG is LP171WU5, the same one used in the M6400. It is most likely compatible with the M17x-R2 and if/when dual 5870 comes out I will order my R2 then replace the samsung screen with the LG.

Yeah i would love to see the big difference between that one. I have always hated the Samsung screen.
