I have an M17x R2 with this lcd display - RGB panel 1920*1200 (1200p) - K1NFP - 170CT - first RGB version - SEC5443 - DELL 0CWMH. This is what my display will do. Randomly go black at times. But will work if i restart the computer, or if i connect an external display up to it(sometimes not all the time). If I am using an external display it works fine, never a problem on the external. The lcd on the laptop has also done the following: flickered a bit then came back all fuzzy with ineligible text, went black then faded to white then to purple all from the center of the screen outwards, went black but showed a couple white lines vertically or one white line at the very bottom of the display. Usually it will work for about ten minutes if i restart the computer then will do one of those things or just go black. I have followed the instructions in this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/693479-m17xr2-blank-screen.html and done the following: reset the bios, reconnected the lcd display on the motherboard, took apart the display itself and reconnected the connections on the lcd monitor. Somewhere in that thread someone was talking about an inverter but i have no idea what that is or how it relates/ and if that could be an issue. Is this just the monitor dying or is there something else i am missing?

When my other laptop did that, it was the video card dying. Can you boot into safe mode and see if it still does it with usage? I am not going to guess drivers because the symptoms you described do not sound like it.
Have you check to see if the video card(s) are overheating? Are the fans working?

Well the external display works fine. So that makes me doubt its the GPU unless there is a seperate part of it going to the lcd that is screwed up. It is running fine and fans are working. I have been running 2 displays for about 8 hours now without issue. But the last 3 days it was haywire as hell, work ten minutes then die. But the external display never died or had any issue whatsoever. Just the lcd display would die. I'm scratching my head over here....

Sorry I did not read your original message better. I am stumped. Don't have anything else to throw out there.
Hopefully, someone here will chime in.

Well I would say that the LCD or LCD cable isn't working fine, you say it happens with both displays right?

No it only happens with the LCD display on the laptop itself. My external display has never once had a problem when connected to the GPU via HDMI cable. Sorry if I did not make that clear. The only issues are on the LCD display on the laptop itself. I reconnected the LCD cable to the motherboard and also took apart the lcd display and reconnected the other end of the cord to the display itself.
