Hi There good people.
I have recently got hold of a m17x R2, specs are:
# Intel® Core™ i7-920XM Processor Extreme Edition (8M Cache, 2.00 GHz)
# CrossFireX(TM) Dual 1GB GDDR5 ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 4870
# 8GB (2X4G) DDR3-1333MHz SDRAM
# 17.0" WUXGA 1920 x 1200 - Beyond HD (1200p) - RGB LED
500gb seagate drive + 64gb ssd gskill falcon2
I upgraded from a M17x r1 which would stutter sometimes (seems theres no fix for it) and so far its ok except 1 really annoying issue. Im getting the black screen after sleep issue where u can only see the mouse, i've read through the various threads and it seems theres really no fixes for it. I think its a problem with the video drivers although I cannot seem to find any drivers that are compatible with the m17x, I tried ATI's drivers but they woudlnt give me the option to turn on Crossfire.
I've narrowed down the issue in that it only happens if you leave the machine sleeping for a long time otherwise if u put it to sleep for only a short period, then the screen comes back up fine.
I've updated the BIOS for A09 (and then had to re install win7), pretty much installed all the drivers on the dell website, turned on and off the fall sensor.
My workaround is to simply press the power button and it puts the machine back to sleep. and then press the power button again which turns it back on and only this time the screen appears correctly. (hence the above where this only occurs after a LONG sleep).
Any ideas?

don't put it to sleep, use hibernate instead?

then how do you expect us to help you if you're not the first person with the problem and there are no solutions?
i have the issue also. there is nothing to do about it. sorry. -
thanks for your input, but my workaround of sleeping it again and turning it back on is faster than hibernation imho, it comes out of sleep pretty much instantly.

i'm lost again on why you started a thread on this if you had a solution that you liked, and you knew there was no other solutions currently known?
i don't mean to be a jerk, sorry if i'm coming off rude. -
no offence taken...
i was asking around to see if there was a known fix for this ... it is very annoying as you would know and to see if dell can acknowledge this issue ( i know there are a few dell reps around here)
