Well I spilled coke all over my laptop and subsequently the electricals are completely fried. I had crossfire 5870s a 740qm I believe. My question is, since i believe repair is out of the question how does the replacement process work and what would be a suitable replacement that I should accept given the chance? Thanks guy, Alienware support has always been great so I'm hoping for the best.

With those specs, pretty much anything they could offer you should be an upgrade if they can't repair it. As you've got a dual GPU system due to it being an R2, you could probably swing an 18" system as a replacement, but even a single card recent card should be an upgrade.
Similar with a processor. If you had something like an XM then you could argue for one in return on a basis of functionality, but a 740QM should be blown away pretty much by any later generation CPU.
Wait and see what happens first, but in terms of settling it would be pretty hard for Dell to offer a downgrade even if they tried! -
Haha photo I'm all for optimism, and you're probably right. Well I'm just ready to figure out, it seems everything burned out in it since it was on when I spilled it lol. But when I hear something I will let u guys know to see what you think!

What and why I ended up with the 17 in my sig..I could of pushed for a 18 R5 but was explained it would be the lowest end one or I could take a high end 17.
Well since single cards have far less driver issues in game than duel, well you get the picture. Good luck don't push hard and it will work out. -

I appreciate all the support/good luck sent my way guys!! I'm still waiting on the box to send it to arrive. I'm just ready to see what happens!! I'm hoping all goes well, and there will be no trouble, you guys all seem very optimistic which makes me hopeful. And everytime I had a problem with my laptop dell fixed it. So i am optimistic to say the least myself! I'm assuming the box will be here monday(business day) so maybe by Friday ill have an idea?
I have mono at the moment too so I need some cheer in my life. -

Well I got the box and shipped it out yesterday. Just a few minutes ago alienware called but my phone died :X do I just need to call them back or what? It doesn't seem likely that they would have even received my machine yet

just talked to dell yesterday and they said I hsve been approved for an exchange, and that they would call me with specs in a couple days, but today I get an automated email saying my laptop has been shipped to me? Do I need to call them?

This is starting to bother me... I have been so patient and not calling them or anything just waiting for calls. Turns out I called today asking about the exchange, he said the guy would call me in a few business days. But it seems that apparently, I was approved for an exchange on the 22nd when I had called before, but whoever I talked to didn't do their job. The agent I talked to today basically said they didn't do their job on the 22nd, and that led to the first exchange being cancelled.. I really hope they do me right after all of this

Hang in there it will get worked out. Thats why I said in the PM it's not being a pain to call, they need to be followed up on all the time. One guy handle's the new builds and he gets real busy. I think you will be happy in the end. :thumbsup:

Sigh... They called today and said they were shipping out my replacement and it should be here wednesday. I asked him I said "excuse me, they were supposed to call me with specifications and get it OK'ed" and he said let me check on the specifications and came back with no information really aside from "It's very similar to the one you had before"
I'm starting to get really frustrated the customer service experience has been awful from beginning to end, and now they don't even call me to ok the specs of the computer they send out?..... -

So I've received the replacement, I don't know what to think -.-
The processor is a i7-3630qm(2.40ghz) and the gfx card is a gtx680M
It's an R4. I dunno I just feel like after seeing similar cases(alienwolf/etc) that I got shorted when I see people with the same specs end up with 780s and way better processors. Also considering I was not given any info this whole time -
I had duals 5870s to begin with and this one has one 680m and "intel Hd graphics 4000" ....

I dunno, what do you guys think.. I'm not as knowledgable about things as I used to be, it's just difficult when I see other people who had my same specs end up with something seemingly much better

The cpu is much better than you had and some would say a 680 is pretty darn nice you do not get the SLI problems. But this is something you must decide if you want to pursue further.Good Luck.

The primary display adapter is set to the intel hd graphics 4000 as well.... Sigh :/ not the best experience so far. I wish an alienware mod would at least check this topic out
