Ok so i been thinking about getting a Alienware m17x r2 motherboard because my alienfx controller died so i have to replace motherboard but instead of the R1 motherboard i want to put a R2 motherboard in it and i know that everything from the R2 motherboard is the same as R1 besides the CPU socket (takes "i" series proccesors) and some other stuff but if i upgrade it to R2 MOBO can i use all my components on the R2 MOBO and i know i have to get a new proccesor which is no problem but can i use all my other stuff and i heard that somebody had a sound problem and do you guys know if he fixed it ? Can you guys list what i need that i cant use from my R1 like heatsinks ,etc? and ill attach a pic of my specs.

The R2 motherboard will fit in the M17x chassis.
    But you'll:
    - have to change or modify the middle plate (between the motherboard and keyboard), they are not the same.
    - need a M17x R2 CPU heatsink.
    - need a daughter board, i don't remember if the M17x one works with the M17x R2 motherboard (I tried when i had both but can't remember the result, the ribbon fits though).

GPU heatsinks are all the same between the two models. The only difference is the thermal pad arrangement.

Hello, Jordy, sorry for my late reply.
Yes, you can replace the middle plate with one coming from a M17x R2.

The CPU/system heatsinks are not the same, only the GPU heatsinks are.

The daughter board is the one that has the audio chip, audio jacks, right hand USB ports, card reader etc. This is a separate card from the motherboard itself.
