Ok ill get to the point. My trackpad has had issues for awhile, it will work when the pc starts up but not after it notices the external mouse... but that is just a small issue. So then i started having crazy display issues, like the screen going black randomly and giant red vertical lines, even during bootup or in bios... then in windows it would run for a minute then go all red with little black marks. crazy ive never seen anything like it before... So im thinking uhoh motherboard issues... If u want pics just ask illl post them... SO i decided ok, ill take it apart and have a look see. Nothing out of the norm for me. So I cleaned out my GPU, and did this oven trick that resolders it, and re thermal pasted it. Ive done this before and it works, well the oven thing i mean, re thermal pasting is not an issue.. SO i decided while i was doing that i would re thermal paste my CPU as well, its been 3 years or so, so why not. Ok put it all back together and turn it on and NO more graphic issues, works like a champ... but since then my alienware power button does not light up nor does the touch buttons on that status bar as well. The power button will work, sometimes i have to power cycle it to get it to work though. Also my computer wont run a screensaver now or turn off the display on its own... So, I don't know if somehow i messed something up when i repasted the CPU or if maybe its the motherboard just going bad. Or maybe a bios or software issue....
Also my display drivers are updated and i tried restarting the alienfx controller to no avail. All other alienware lights work fine. When i first started the pc after i repasted the CPU the lights, power light and status strip worked for a second then nothing after that. Once in awhile on startup the power button will light up but only for a second.
I am in the process of reformatting anyway because it needs it, i usually do it every year anyway. So im gonna try a fresh install and reflash the bios and see if that helps... Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Well now it wont read my windows 7 disc..... says please insert disc then kicks it out.... even though it is in the drive...

Updated my bios to the unlocked a10 version, power light worked for a minute, but wouldt turn on til i power cycled it now it wont work again. Also my dvd seems to read other discs but not my windows disk... having all kinds of issues. Want to do a fresh install and bios update but im having alot of trouble here...
-
well reinstalled windows, bios, and all drivers and having the same issues... so to recap:
after i thermal pasted my gpu and cpu i am having these issues:
alienware media bar not lighting up /working
power button working sometimes, somtime not. but only lighting up occasionally on startup. if it doesn't work i have to power cycle the laptop to get it to work.
optical dvd drive having issues reading some discs.. this issue may have been resolved...
i would say the biggest issue is with the power button and media bar... i reconnected the cables multiple times to no avail...
Anyone have any suggestions? -
Ok my only issues at this point are that the keyboard leds are always white, the power button and media bars wont light up, and the command center randomly opens as if im hitting the media button even though I am not... the media buttons do work though,, but i cant see what im pushing obviously.
I feel like when i repasted my cpu i messed up something with the power on the LED Silabs chip or something.... I was looking for a third party program that i could change the colors with and see if that did anything but i can't find it. I know it exists as i have used it before...
Can anyone help me out here? -
Sounds like a motherboard and power issue.
Check these two items before progressing.
I would haste to say your cpu, ram and other components are ok although the gpu may need replacing as well based on your baking posts.
Go with the motherboard and follow the youtube guides explicitly on how to reassemble all parts.
One thing I would check all connectors one last time and be absolutely sure these are ticked off on your list of possible causes.
Good luck. -
Tried the third party program AlienFX lite and it did not work as well.... yeah i might have to go in it again and have a look. It could be the motherboard but this guy on youtube says he can flash the chip that controls it to fix it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8xqr6_KqwQ
However I do not have the errors that he or everyone else gets regarding the net framework in the beginning, so i would hate to pay 150 bucks to have this guy try this for nothing.... -
