    stock idle about 36 - 40ish
    max load about 70-75"c

    with all cores @25,
    idle 40ish max 48
    gaming 75-80
    benchmarking - 85-90+

do a CPU repaste, somethings wrong in there for sure
    :)

ye i just got this laptop to day from eBay it seams great condition for a good price i have already done a repast but i don't think i did it very well will try again tomorrow (i'm in the uk) i'm using arctic silver 5 is that a good paste to use or are there better ones.

i'm getting around 40ish when i'm doing nothing but just web browsing light stuff sends it to 60-70ish so defiantly something not right

My 920XM is like 50C, I haven't bothered to repaste it, though my room is upstairs and is hot (26C). Full load can reach high 80's, low 90's.

Since proper paste with Shinetsu G571 I am seeing idle CPU temps of 35-42 C depending on varying room temp between 60-70 F.

Internet browsing will get the temps up to about 60 F, but I am using throttlestop.

Max temps with some games after ~2 hrs:

Need for Speed: Shift Unleashed 75 C

    Dead Island 75 C

Grand Theft Auto 4 (CPU intensive) 79 C

I had to reduce my clocks on my GPU's to 800/1100 @1.05 V as I was constantly getting BSOD and now the max temps dont exceed 69 and 73 C respectively.

I have performed the ultimate cooling mod on the GPU's.

ok i hav done my second repaste and its now a lot better its idling around 40-45ish and just did a wprime 1024m with 8 threads going and it never got hotter than 83c the room temperature is about 18c while not the best temps in the world i can live with these. I know that thermal pastes are supposed to cure over time this is what it says on the arctic silver website is this true and by how much will it improve 1-2c or 4-5c?

ok i've now decided i should also redo the gpus as well what thickness of pads do you guy recommend I think i read that the stock ones are 2mm the advice on the m15x forums was to with 0.5mm. Is the m17x r2 different, should i stick with 2mm pads or is it better to go with 0.5mm

Well you can use thermal paste, as per the "ultimate cooling mod" guide. Do a search here for the guide. The paste works better than the pads.

I used Fujisoft 0.5mm pads for the GPU ram chips and Arctic Silver 5 for the Die. The GPU's temp hasn't gone above 65C since. I don't game on my m17x so the GPU load doesn't get above 50%. Still, max temp via GPU-Z is 65C. I'm not sure which thickness of pads to use for the voltage regulators. I've got Fujisoft 1.5mm pads on the CPU/Voltage Regulator heatsink. Wasn't sure if 1.0mm would be thick enough. My CPU temps hover around 50C at idle, but I'm running dreamscene all the time, and my system sits flat on my desk (no cooler).

Between 40 C and 55 C across the board. It has been running all day with 27 C room temperature. See the attached screenshot from HWiNFO64.

    Cheers

I'll have to compare these numbers against mine tonight after playing D3 for awhile. I don't recall CPUS temps but recall seeing 100 on a GPU.

I've used both Fujipoly .5mm and 1.0mm thermal pads for my GPUs...definitely don't go any more then 1.0mm. I can honestly say that I got roughly the same results out of both.

I'm currently using .5mm and it's been rock solid.

The nice thing about ordering .5mm pads is that you can always stack two on top of each other if you aren't getting the right contact with only one.

Yup, I'm using 0.5mm for the RAM chips against the GPU heatsink. Which thickness are you using between the voltage regulators and CPU heatsink? I went with 1.5mm because I didn't want there to be no cooling for the regulators. I wonder if the 1.0mm pads would make contact and allow the CPU heatsink to make better contact with the die?

Hello, I'm sorry for "jacking" this thread but I just have a quick question. I also have an M17xR2 and was wondering what program/utility you guys use/recommend best for monitoring CPU and GPU temperatures?

    Thanks in advance.

HWiNFO64 works great for me. It shows everything.
