Hi, ive been reading around about possible screen swaps and upgrades for the r3. The stock 900p screen sucks apparently, and a lot of people will say that the 1200p screen in the r2 was the best, the rgb led screen with a 95% gamut. I was wondering if it would work in the mx17r3, they are both 40 pin so it should plug in and work, but the screen itself can not be swapped into the r3 screen assembly because it is a 17" and the r3 is a 17.3", and getting the lcd and pexi-glass not to crack is tough enough as it is. So then I though, if I find a complete r2 screen with the lcd panel I want, it should just hook up to the mother board, and screw right in, right?

The screen size/shape itself is different. It won't fit as far as I'm aware. I wouldn't bother with it and just get a normal 1080p screen. :(

The 1080p screens on the R3 look pretty nice from what I hear though.

But I'm wondering if I can get an entire assembly, which includes hinges, frame, and plexiglass and just hoot it up to the mobo, and screw it in?

Sorry, the connector is slightly different, it looks like the rectangle is a bit longer, so more pins maybe? Just like the LCD hinges don't line up, and the actual screen is slightly wider and shorter. Trust me, my friend wanted to transplant his R2s LCD into his new R3 and we found it just wouldn't work.

It´s quite the challenge you´re trying to do there. As other users said, it will not fit. Personally, I haven´t read or heard about anyone who has done it. As imglidinhere said you can always upgrade your LCD to 1080p if you´re looking for a better screen.

Thank you, my stubborn is finally satisfied, I don't want to give up, because you can switch the 40 pin connectors, but that is too much with my experience (just taking hardware apart and modding). I guess I can do the 90% gamut 1200p screen instead. Thanks guys.

Your still gonna have issues as the screen assembly is very very difficult yo take apart without breaking the plexi glass or ruining the old LCD panel. When I upgraded to 1080p, I just bought the whole assembly off eBay and so far its been great! :)

I didn't realize that was possible. I thought the actual LCD screen was bonded to the plexiglass with some sort of industrial adhesive and that once you remove it, you almost never get the new screen to bond with the old plexiglass?

I have experience with a sign business I use to work at, Owner is friend of mine, getting any plexiglass isn't hard. Even laser cutting, but just swapping lcd assemblies is what I will do most likely. I should upgrade my gpu before I add another 500ppi.
