    Hi All

I was burgled about 2 weeks ago, and my R2 taken from my study :( :( :( :( It was my first alienware I ever owned!

Anyhow, from a very sad story to a very good ending, I was able to get the new 17 with the 120 hz screen from my insurance payout, and all I can say is WOW. My R2 was a beast with some upgrades like a SSD HD and crossfire 5870's.

Since I got the new machine last friday, I am awe struck. I had my doubts that alienware could build a better machine than the R2 but I can honestly say that the new 17 is going to be a solid machine for many years to come!!

Just wanted to share some of my joy!! Alienware for LIFE!! hehehe

Hate burglars, would cut their hands off if i could.

10 Years ago i lost desktop worth ~$1500 (taken from my study as well)

and ~3 months ago i found out my GTX780M MXM card ~$800 was stolen from my letterbox/''safe drop'' because UPS guy left it basically on the floor (pushed trough hole in the door for letters)

I did not have any insurance back then, but i have now !

Glad you could get new 17, i can feel your pain when you found out R2 is not on the desk.
I felt the same when i was trying to open my study room and the doors were already open, i was like ''what the %"%!%'', so i opened the doors, turned my head where my desktop would normally be, ......the area was empty, and the window in the study was wide open with curtains moving rapidly because of the wind (window was closed when i left study for weekend).

2 weeks of drama, pointless police investigation, me standing at 45 degree angle against the wall, looking into the floor and thinking......

Keep an eye on that AW 17. ;)

I feel the same way about the build quality. When I had the M17x R4, I thought that was the best built laptop I've ever had, and then Alienware pulls out this lineup... One word: bravo.

Glad it worked out in the end.

Thieves are one of the scums of the earth. Wish the consequences for stealing was more severe.

Regardless, keep that new baby of yours safe!

I cannot imagine you losing that GTX 780M, the horror!

My new baby is kept under lock when used, and locked away in the safe when I don't use it from now on!

Pity that one has to be so vigilant to safeguard your stuff!

This machine is my source of income through the day and my entertainment some nights and weekends.

As the saying goes, with great power comes great responsibility! :)

That's awesome! I'm glad you had insurance on it. :) Such an investment should always be fully protected.

Sorry to hear that. The worst bit is that all your data is gone. Out of curiosity is anyone running any data protection on their gaming PC? BitLocker or anything?

I keep my data backed up at the office, and my current projects are synced to the cloud (Autocad 360) I do a occasional file history backup on a portable HDD and I dont keep password files or banking details on my machine, I am a bit old school, writing them down in a book that is locked in the safe.

The rest of my files are hydraulic calculations and engineering stuff, which should be useless to the dumb asses that took my machine....

But yes some of my saved games are gone :( Would have to replay them on this awesome new machine!!!

This new 17 does not support BitLocker on the HDD (I did try to enable it), and I don't know if one can set it up with a USB key?

That's strange that BDE is missing. Might have to enable TPM in the BIOS.

You can enable BDE on USB drives.
