Any success stories with this card in the M17x R2? I swore I saw this topic before but can't find it again, and Google didn't bring anything up. It did however, bring up a YouTube benchmark vid on a guy who has done it. Seems like this would be the best AMD card to use in it. Any help would be appreciated.

Eeee why don't you just buy 7970M? 8970M and 290X is same card, it's only rebranded.

8970M/ R9 M290x are better binned than the 7970M and are less likely to fail. You will likely have to undervolt to 1.0V instead of the default 1.050

Some time the card doesn't work like it should, the screen goes white and stuff like that, some time you have to disable the audio onboard with the modded A10 bios. Someone is trying to put an gtx 970m in his m17xr2 and if it work it will be a better upgrade than 680m or 7970m ( or 8970m/290m as they are the same card slightly oc ). So you should wait for the result and fater that buy the card you want. The 7970m is a very simple upgrade, the 680m too, you have to be carefull with the screw things for both but after that ...

Yeah I was Lookin at the 7970, but the 8970 is very close in price. Nvidia's are a big jump more in $ tho.
