    at the outlet, i saw a M17x r2 with i7 920 2.66ghz desktop cpu..

    Processor: Intel Core i7-920 Processor (8MB L3 Cache, 1MB L2 Cache, 2.66GHz) 13H17

is this mere typo or is this thing real?? cause the cpu itself is like 130w power... i have seen precision with this cpu and i called the tech support to ask and they told me that the power is throttled down to 90wat...

but if this is real, how would thermal cooling work.........

i saw a thread for precision saying that it might be 920xm, but i saw many many of these at the outlet so its shouldnt easily be the case...

    thanks for the help!

It would be the 920xm, the M17x doesn't have the right slot on the motherboard for a desktop processor.

the socket is different but i thought they might have had special mobos for the desktop i7s...

i called like last november to tech team asking about the 920 dektop i7 in precision. the workstation support told me that they actually have orders with such processor..

so i guess no one really has m17x with the desktop i7...

There's no m17x with a desktop CPU option,no other motherboard NOTHING..
The R1 uses only one type of motherboard, the R2 the same and so on..

    The i7 920 you saw it's a 920xm..

Typo..not the first time they did it. My R2 had the same processor but I knew it was a 920xm @2.0ghz. Didn't care because I don't want a desktop CPU in this as the i7 mobile extremes are beasts anyway.
