    Hello All,

I have an opportunity to pick this up as a 2nd laptop..I want to know what everyone thinks about it...Do you think it's a decent deal? Originally I thought it was overpriced..but I am fairly certain it was well cared for...and with Dual RAID 0 Samsung 470 256GB SSDs as well as Crossfire graphics...I'm not so sure....it just may be a decent deal....what do you all think? Ide love your opinons.....Please notice..this is an R2 model!

    Alienware M17X R2 $1500.00

    Intel XM920 processor.

    8 GB DDR3 1333Mhz Ram.

2-256 GB Samsung SSD hard drives/raid.

    Dual ATI 5870 video cards/crossfire.

Blueray writer slot load optical drive.

    Media slot,Express card slot,4 USB 2.0.HDMI out,ESata port.

    Intel Wireless N.

    WUXGA HD LED LCD Screen.

This laptop has been very gently used and is in A1 condition cosmetically and functionally.

Also included are an extra battery/charger,alienware keyboard, and alienware mouse.

So what are your thoughts?? Are the R2's made well in comparison to the R3's?? What about the price...Im curious to hear your opinion...thanks!

Depends on the warranty. In warranty, pull the trigger. OOW, buyer beware. There maybe some funky reason why he is selling it for that cheap, 2 x used 256 GB 470's still are like 250-300 a pop. You could literally part it out for much more.

Thanks for all the responses guys...since it's out of warranty..I think I have convinced him to let me take it for a test drive first...then drop the price even further...I'll let you know how it goes...!

Even OOW, you could part that thing out for the 1500 and more (if it dies).

depending on how long its been out of warranty, can't you just pay their extortionate price to extend it?

Yes you could, but then you'd be paying 1500 + probably 400 dollars...which you might as well get an in warranty R2? You could bump him down and part it out...

I paid 1500 for BatBoy's R2; 920XM, 6 GB RAM, 250 GB HDD, RGBLED WUXGA, 5870M Crossfire, with 9 months left so 2 x 256 GB SSDs is quite the good deal.

Ok All....here is the update....The laptop is in mint condition...the gentleman selling it says he has never gamed on it...he claims that he used it to output Blu Ray Audio and Video to his home entertainment center...and as a web browser...he had some money to burn at the time and called Dell and asked them for their most powerful system available and they sold him this one..almost 5K original purchase price...he told me about 6 months after owning it, the unit was giving him issues powering down as long as the battery was still in...so Dell sent a tech out under warranty and the tech said it was a known issue with some of the motherboards...so he replaced the motherboard with a new one and the laptop has functioned flawlessly ever since....now here is the important part...because it's not under warranty anymore I was able to get him to agree to the following:

    Laptop
    Alienware keyboard
    extra power supply
    extra battery
    Alienware mouse
    owners manual
    service manual
original OS disk (Win 7 Home premium 64 bit)
    factory driver disk
    All for $1000.00

..I have until Friday to decide....so what does everyone think??

Lol, now that sounds a bit excessive, seems like he is in desperation to get rid of it for some reason. Nonetheless, it still is too much of a steal to let go.. should be fine if you give it a thorough inspection.

You may want to get the S/T and see if the person registered it to matches seller name, only reason why I can think of it being sold that low is a machine that has been stolen. Even fully loaded R2 with mechanical drives are 1100-1200 OOW.

Update: Service Tag checks out perfectly..the laptop is in prinstine cosmetic shape...and does have the RGBLED screen!! The seller was an older guy...seemed very honest in every way...We chatted for quite awhile and he told me how he is an audio/videophile and just splurged back in the summer of 2010 and bought the most maxed out laptop Dell offered...but now just really could use the money and uses a Blu Ray player and a more modest HP...Everything I listed above was included...and he even included a Targus bag..I got the entire package for $1000.00...I'm going to do a clean install in just a bit...Only time will tell..but so far it looks like I stumbled on one heck of a deal!

Thanks everyone....It's been several weeks now..and just wanted to update..everything the seller said was spot on...this laptop has run flawlessly...the RGB 1920x1200 is amazing! It is actually better than my 72% gamut calibrated screen on my MSI....and thats saying something! It's coming in at WEI 7.3...(not that WEI means much)....with the weakest link being the Crossfire 5870s...regardless, I couldn't be happier with this beat given the price I paid...and the TON of accessories that the seller included...I just ordered a Coolermaster SF-19...my MSI is occupying my Zalman 2000...so I went for something a bit different....I can't believe how huge the R2 is...noticeably bigger, bulkier and heavier than my MSI...but it's also built like a tank...the lid is so tight...I basically have to pry it open...this is awesome as I'll be using both this and my MSI as desktop replacements in different areas of my house..anyway, thanks to all for the feedback...I'm happy to be a member of both camps now...MSI and AW!

I lucked out by checking my local Craigslist....and then was just aggressive and logical about getting the seller to lower his price...i provided tons of feedback about the risks of buying a used laptop etc...and finally I just offered him $1000.00 cash...and that was it...
