    Hey all,

Just got my R3 and the first time I plugged the laptop in I got the "Plugged in, not charging". I did a Google search on the problem, found some threads on the R2 models but none for the R3's. I tried shutting the laptop down, removing the battery and pushing the power button for 60 seconds as I saw that mentioned somewhere.

Is there a solution to this problem? Is it a larger, more serious problem then I am thinking it to be? I really hope not, the computer seems to be flawless so far. I'm going to call support tomorrow morning, but thought I would ask the guys/gals here first. Would love to get this fixed.

    Any help? Thanks.

    R3, 2820, 6970, 16 Gig, 320 Gb hard drive

There is a setting in the bios called charger behavior on the front page in the bios make sure that is enabled, or it will not charge. Sounds like it is disabled. Let me know if that fixes your issue.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just checked that out, and sadly it was enabled. That would have been nice!

I had this problem on 4 R2's. I hope you get it resolved through a replacement.

I hope it doesn't come to that. When they do replacements, do they require you to send in your computer first? I just don't wanna go without the computer for any length of time. Would like to get it resolved without replacement, hopefully someone knows of a fix.

Did a bunch of testing with support today and removed the coin battery with no luck.

They're sending me a new battery and charger, I highly doubt that's going to fix my problem.

Just FYI: if they'll ever decide to replace your system, you'll get it first, have a few days with both of them (so you can move your data from the current to the new one) and then ship the old one to the adress they'll provide. You won't be left without a laptop, unless you return it to reorder a new one.

maybe your battery hasn't reached its threshold...... if its over 95% but under 100$ it will say plugged in, not charging. Once it drops below 95 it should charge again. If it doesn't, then you have a hardware issue.

The other day I didn't realize my R3 was unplugged, and played a good 90 minutes of EverQuest2. Warning popped up that the battery was nearly dead.

I plugged in the AC adapter, and immediately hovered my mouse over the battery icon and saw the "Plugged in, Not Charging" message. I didn't realize this was an issue on the forums, and just thought, "that's odd..."

A little while later (15 min?) I hovered over it again and now it said, "Plugged in, Charging" and it was at 17%.

Does it just take some time in some cases? Maybe people need to give it a little longer?

Oh no not again!!!!!!! Really Dell you figured they would have worked out this issue. What usually works for me on my R2 may work for you was to unplug battery and AC, hold down power button for a minute, and then put the battery in then the AC. That should fix it.

I'm on day three of being plugged in and not charging. Will have my new battery and charger tomorrow when I get home from work. After that, I guess it's replacement time sadly.

I had this once, just took battery off and everything went to normal. in my case, it said: ac is not of the proper wattage. please connect one with the proper wattage to enable charging... weird!

im noticing another issue. my computer is almost connected all time, but when i turn it on, batt is 95%. im positive to unplug it until its been completely shut down before transportation. then it charges to 100%. do i have a defective battery? its like its draining while off...
