I can't find the alienspawn startup in msconfig or services. I don't want to uninstall alienspawn I just don't want the icon there anymore or popups reminding me to backup (already have on different install).

Not to bring back the dead, but i found a solution to this:

There is a service called "SoftThinks Agent Service" once you disable it and restart it should stop alienspawn from starting, as well as "Toaster.exe" and the transparent bar on top of the display.

There is a far easier way:

Next to the notification area there is an up arrow for showing all the hidden icons. If you click it there is an option labeled Customize. Click customize, find the icon in the list that you dont want notifications from and dont want to see, click "Hide Icon and Notifications" in the dropdown.

If the up arrow is not there, right click anywhere on the taskbar, select properties. In the middle of the Window under "notification area" click Customize. Again, find the icon you dont want to see and pick "Hide Icon and Notifications".

Remove the 2 icon files and they are gone.

    C:\Program Files (x86)\AlienRespawn\locale\shell

    shell_backup.ico
    shell_backup_no_uptodate.ico
