Hi peeps. I have just ordered an M17x R3 with the dual SATA raid 0 "stripe" HDD (320+320GB).

Does anyone know what is the make and model of these HDDs that Alienware use in their latest M17x R3s?

    Thanks!

In the past it varied, usually based on what was available at the time of build. I had one dual drive (non raid) laptop where each drive was a different manufacturer.

Well, it used to be Samsung PM800 in the R2 but I believe that it could well be Samsung PM810 now for the R3 (which is the same as a Samsung 470 that you can buy retail, its just the OEM version Dell put in)

Pretty sure but maybe someone with an R3 can confirm this as correct (as I dont have an R3 lol)

This is true, but only for the Solid State Drives. The hard drives varied from Western Digital to Seagate. Its picked randomly when your system is being built.

But for SSD's they are all PM810's now.

Any drives starting with ST are always Seagate.

I bought my r2 with a single 500gb config. The drive that came with it was a seagate. I tested it in crystalmark and got 84mb/sec seq read. It was not bad.
However, I decided to put in a seagate momentus xt (hybrid) as a bootdrive and use the other one as storage.

The drive that came with the computer was ok as a bootdrive, you will not get disappointed.

Edit: It is most slightly the same disc you will get, as my R2 is only 1 week old!

Thx typecast and inap - Do your replies mean that the 640GB Raid 0 "stripe" HDDs are two Seagate Momentus Slims?

If it's RAID 0 yes there are two but probably not Seagate.
    Mine was a Seagate 320Gb.
