I'm having an issue with MW3 where when I look around it's really hard to see things. It's not smooth and almost like it's stuttering. I made a video but it's not as obvious because I lose quite a bit of FPS while recording. However, I get 50-60 FPS in game at all times, even while looking around. But the quality of what I'm looking at when running or strafing is vastly different compared to when mouse-looking around the screen. I guess you would call it microstuttering.

Here is the video: Modern Warefare 3 mouse look not smooth - YouTube

Notice how the building in the background is very easy to focus on when strafing or moving forward and back, but as I look around it's very hard to look at and focus on.

My system is an alienware m17x r3 with a core i7 2720qm, 8gb of ram, ati 6990M gpu. I have an SSD but MW3 is not installed on it. I am running windows 8 pro 64-bit. Graphics driver is 12.11 beta. I had 12.10 whql before going to 12.11 and both versions exhibited the same problem.

I've tried making many modifications to the settings and the config file such as setting "r_multiGpu" to both 0 and 1. I've also tried the various forcing of AA / AF through the drivers.

I installed counter-strike: source and it does not have the problem at all. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

So I figured out it was a driver issue all along. Apparently with powerplay disabled in CCC the driver was limited my gpu clock to 100mhz and memory to 150mhz. All I had to do was enable powerplay. Only took me 6 hours of tinkering to figure out.

... and I was premature in that. I was using world of warcraft as a test since I knew that ran great on this system. Warcraft now works great but modern warfare still exhibits the same issue :(

Thanks for your generic, canned response while obviously not reading my replies.

I read through the main post and thought it was fixed. If the issue is still present only on MW3 then the issue would be with the game. Have you tried running any benchmark on your lappy?
Do they come out fine?. What about the MW3 forums? Do they seem to have many issues with that game on AMD GFX cards?

Is MW3 running at max native resolution? By default any CoD game always starts up in low resolution for some reason (MW2, Black Ops, MW3).

I've tried max and low resolutions and nothing seems to solve it. The only thing that has helped is turning "mouse smooth" ON, which is the opposit of what everyone suggests. It's the only thing that makes the game playable, though still not perfect.
