    120hz will almost guarantee a 1080 16:9 screensize.
Personally I'd prefer the RGB 16:10, but if the 120hz/3d screen has some incredible features, I might be convinced to change my mind. But overall the RGB screen as it is would continue what is probably the #2 best screen on all laptops.

Switchable graphics "I think" will not be possible when a machine is equipped with dual discrete cards. This may be something Intel fixes, but at last check you can either have built in graphics in the CPU or discrete cards but not both.

Yup, and it is on par with a 5870 GPU desktop in some anandtech benchmark...Impressive if you ask me.

Yeah, I've been eye-balling it. It's got a i7-9xx desktop CPU as well. The problem is that the PSU doesn't supply enough wattage. Nothing that two of them in parallel wouldn't fix. My laptop doesn't have great resale value though, so I'll be using it until the doors fall off.

When are these R3's supposedly coming out? some people are saying this side of december, but to be competetive shouldn't they wait for SB to come out and then release R3? or they would be having to make another R4 soon after.

    Yes it does
    & I hope the R3 has 480m sli too

cos i see this Comparison of Laptop Graphics Cards
& the 460m sli is not worth it, but the 480m SLI is :)

I don't want a whole new laptop for a couple of new GPUs. I don't think that's fair to the consumer. It would be cool if they sold a kit that came with the cards, heatsinks, SLI connector and a new power brick.

You say it's not worth it, but when you look at the games performance page, this one : Computer Games on Laptop Graphic Cards - Notebookcheck.net Tech
You see that the 460m sli has scores very close to those of the 480m sli, and for a much lower price.
What would actually be great is the 470m sli which is the best gpu for notebooks at the moment.

Had....past tense. GTX 480M is EOL, replaced with GTX 470M and in the coming months GTX 580M.

You must get arms and legs cheap. Last I checked GTX 470M was some $400USD over GTX 460M and Mob. HD5870.

Synthetic benchmarks like Vantage show it's more powerful, though we need more gaming results to officially confirm that.

Why would we need great graphic cards if we aren't tapping the full potential of it?? almost all the games are console ports to pc... nothing major is made just for pc utilizing its full potential.... xbox has poor components compared to even r1 isnt it? well I could be wrong what do you guys think??

yerh but sometimes there ported so poorly, you need a supercomputer to get smooth fps out of them lol. Easy to optimize for uniform platform like xbox, muich trickier on the pc with its multitude of possibilities, couple that with the fact that devs think its a dead platform coz its 10% of their sales and your looking at poorly optimized ports :(

Sure there are exceptions out there but these rare few are the exception rather than the rule. 3D is going to require double the frame rate too. I see your point too though coz there dont seem to be much new that would help in other non gaming apps (like a killer new cpu or something.)

Anyhow ive only just got a R1 and i wont be ponying up for a new machine for a while so I like your philosophy lol... I may have to adopt it ;)

yea so we are spending 100s of $$$/£££ coz devs cant code a game properly .. Apart from gaming we dont need high power gfx cards(except firepro or quodro for editing and 3d content creation which serves a valid purpose) but to run a game properly which doesnt even need half the processing power if created properly... well if we can already run almost all the game with 5870 xfire then why upgrade as devs will still be porting games from xbox/ps3 so u dont need anymore power than u already have... i dont see a valid reason other than benchmarking. dont you think we have reached a saturation point?? I now need games with graphics like those in 3dmark11 coz if devs had seen a market in pc we would have already had it by now.. comments... and i dont mean to start a debate ;-)...

29 days to the next CES 2011... Will it be the show room for the SB and luckily, the next R3? Is someone going to be there to tell us the findings? So many expectations in so many people... :) as they say: "will innovation restore the American dream"?

I think we are all trying very hard to save our R3 funds... LOL

Dell does not realize that many people are just waiting and saved up money but that money may go somewhere else if they don't announce something soon.

At least with apple products such as the iphone we know we have to wait until June of each year... That makes it easy...

touch pad will ALWAYS remain directly under space bar... it will remain the same in any revision... in fact its the case with any laptop.. and 17inchers will have number pad on the right side so space bars aren't centralized...

120hz makes everything look funny, like a soap opera. I was watching Iron Man 2 at Sam's Club on a 120hz, and it looked like live television. I don't know how to explain it.

TV's 120HZ aren't true 120HZ, they just interpolate the frames but the input still 60HZ.

I agree, I watched "Step Brothers" on a tv that looked the same. Still torn on if I liked it or not. I guess maybe it looked too life like, and that took out some of the appeal.
