I tried searching for the answer to this, but couldn't find exactly what I needed, so apologies if this is a repeat of a previous thread.

I'm considering getting an M17x R3 in the near future and can't decide which screen/gpu combo to go for.

Is there a difference in quality between the 3D 120Hz screen and the non-3d 60Hz screen? What are the colour gamuts on each of them?

I'm not certain if I want/need 3D, it rules out using Optimus, plus the fact that I'd need a 580m rather than 6990 with it puts the price up quite a lot.

On the other hand, if the 3D display is better I may go with it anyway.

Does anyone have any side by side pics of the 2 screens? I can't find one anywhere.

    Thanks in advance!

I've had both less than 2 weeks.
The representation of colors I liked a little more screen 60Hz, but the 120hz screen has a maximum brightness greater.

They are very similar in quality and contrast levels.

It's better if you want brightness, but that's about it. If you "Need" 3D though, get it. Though for gaming it's not very great.

i am also intreagued with the offer of going to a mx17r3 with a 580m and 120hz screen. i also dont think the brightness of the 60hz is so great, are the colours really that much worse ?

Specs are identical except refresh rate and brightness. The brightness is higher on the 120 Hz screen, mainly because it needs to make things extra bright to get through the 3D sunglasses.

I have not had the 120Hz screen although I have had two different 60Hz screens.

    Therefore, Screen Quality - 60hz vs 60hz

The first M17x with 60Hz had a slight flicker problem at low brightness settings, and the screen seems to have a blue hue to it.

The second M17x with 60Hz had no flicker problems at low brightness settings, and the screen has slighty brigther overall and had no hue problems, was totally white.

Bottom line is, even is the panel is identical in every aspect, each panel differs for one to another.

I found this the same when I had 20+ Philips desktop monitors, all the same model and run from the factory. Each panel has slight differences.
