I got my r3 yesterday and the 2 front grille lights are out. Do you have to remove the display screen to remove the palmrest? If so I'll leave it for the Dell tech.

Remove the back-panel. There will be multiple screws with an "P" besides them. The P-screws need to be screwed out . (P = Palm rest). Screen is not nesessary to be taken off.

The I stands for "Media interface", or the top-line where you have the play, stop, pause buttons etc.

So I don't need to remove the bezel and keyboard to remove the palmrest?

Always use the service guide, Documentation, it is not terribly hard to do, and you might go slower and be more careful than a tech, but only try if your are comfortable.

Also, if at any point you can't get it to work just put it back together, never try to force your way ahead.

I've done this many times. You need to remove the back, many screws including ones in the battery compartment. The media keys, the keyboard and the the display as well.
