Hi all im not sure if its an issue of my graphics card or my drivers but it is an issue for me while im gaming heavily. My card is at default even with trixx but sometimes my card would just run at 400mhz instead of the 680, while plugged in then after a while would go back to normal operations. Is this problem happening to me alone? anyone have any thoughts would be appreciated thanks.

Have you checked that you are in High Performance mode, the 6970m is set to Maximize performance, and monitored your temps during gaming?

Not sure if my temps are high for the card they are about 85c-86c at most. All set to high performance on windows battery and on CC with powerplay on maxed everything. It just locks in at 400mhz core clock when ever it feels like it lol. I also changed the thermal paste and used fugi 0.5mm for pads.

400MHz is max speed on battery, and it heats up the battery something extreme (pending battery death or permuture battery life).
If you are having problems when plugged in, I would be looking for setting pointing towards the battery. It may be simular to the switchable graphics that stops working, there becomes a point where you have to reboot the machine to get your clocks back when plugged in.

Thats the thing though setting on battery is all set to max performance but if it is the battery at fault im going to give a test run with battery out and see if there is a drop. Will post finding thanks guys.

Well pulling out battery did not help still got the drop to 400mhz. Never had this problem before i think. The only other software solution i could think of is OS. May try a clean install to see if any of that helps.

It happens to me sometimes. I blame either Trixx or the drivers. Tried going back to a clean install of the original drivers and it seems fixed for now.

Clean install of windows and everything, or just drivers? Seems crazy to happen on a totally fresh install! Did you use the default Dell 6970m drivers?

Same thing happened to me just today, never happened before. What a coincidence.
Edit: and my computer shuts down without any warning, it did just now, and when I turned it back on, speeds were good again. This sux.

Well here is a little solution if anyone else have that problem. I'm not sure if its a total fix but i have been gaming and it hasn't dropped yet so a good sign. Instead of using the default drivers try using the one for M18x instead the driver is 8.800.6.1000 im using it right now works pretty well though i did have a little bit of fps but not as much when it was downclocked. As for dell im still making them replace it lol, safer than sorry, i paid for my warranty im making it go work.

Do you think your computers are throttling/downclocking possibly due to high temps? Have you checked if it was 400mhz at the beginning of your gaming session? Also, Apoxxx said his shut down without warning, which what usually happens due to overheating, right?

Sorry for the late reply been busy so once im in bed im just about dead. (rhyming) Well i thought it could be an overheating issue but i did a new repasting to see if maybe im at fault there showed no difference in temps. graphics card was at 84-85 degrees when showed usual signs of slowing but i had it slowed down at 76 on several occasions. So im not really sure how how to answer about the overheating, could be a factor but and it could be.
