Hi, just wondering if anyone knows whether the R3 has 4 DIMM slots even if configured with 4GB RAM (2 DIMM) so you can upgrade later.

    Thanks

Also I'm thinking of getting some hyperX memory... if my budget allows. I don't have much knowledge about them however, which is best to get?

Google: KHX1600C9S3K2/8GX. I've done my searching, and those are the best. I'm putting those into my R3 when it arrives.

Cheers, much appreciated. What's the cheapest you found it for? £78 is the cheapest here in UK which is quite pricey.

just get whats cheapest, honestly you won't see much of a difference in real world use. useless you are going to bench like crazy then get the hyperx.

edit forgot it was you andre, hahaha yeah the hyperX are as good as it gets.

make sure you get the 2720QM or 2820QM processor if you want to use the 1600 memory otherwise it will run at 1333.

Hah inap. Thanks zippy, should be getting the 2720QM so it should be fine. Next cheapest 8GB 1333MHz ram is £67 and HyperX is £78. Not as much of a difference as I hoped. Best off getting the HyperX.

already did, ordered one last week.
    2720
    6970
    1080p
    4yr warranty
and everything else stock. have alot of stuff from the M15x that i'm going to use, so that saved me some money.

returned the M15x back to dell awhile back, so i got no laptop atm, which really sucks.

Oh cool, let me know your impressions when you get it, I'm actually getting the exact same spec, expect for the 4 year warranty, cant afford it :( Going to get a vertex 3 when it's released though and pair that with the standard 320GB. Apart from that not really anything else I want to do, maybe the HyperX but not sure yet. Can't really take anything from my M15X so just selling it exactly as it is. Lucky for me I actually have 2 at the moment so shouldn't be without a laptop :)

yeah my eta is the 25th but my rep told me it would be much sooner, but i'm not relaying on her word, hahaha

yeah the new ssd looks awesome, but i'm prolly not gonna jump on it for awhile, prolly just use my intel g2, and get a momentus xt of my secondary. but thats pretty much it. still have my 8gb 1333 kit that i'll use and the 6300 wifi that i have laying around.

Sounds good, forgot about the momentus XT, may get one for my secondary drive, although I probably don't have enough money for all this. Can't wait to put the full spec in my sig. We'll have to get benching, see what it can do, I'm determined to set a record even though it may be ambitious :p

Yeh I was going to say is nobody going for the 2820, I thought someone would have enough money to go for it, I haven't heard of anyone getting it yet. I'll probably stick with the 2720 for quite a while, cant afford 2920, that's one thing I may never have, an extreme processor, just too expensive for me.

I see. Yeah it's not cheap, nowhere near. Would be nice to have an OEM though.

    I will going for the i7-2820QM :D

My main issue with this is where do I get DDR3-1600 memory for cheap, or at all?

Dell listed on thier site option for XMP-1866 speeds, which I would believe will be DDR3-1600 memory with an extra profile added. So why are Dell not offering this when configuring?

So folks say that make sure to get the 2720 or 2820 to use 1600. That means that the stock ram becomes useless once you buy the HyperX, right? Or can you set the stock ram to 1600 as well? (stock is 1333).

    TYIA!
