I just got the laptop today and I put in a bluray disc and a program loaded with playback but there is lines on the screen and there is playback lag. Is the player broke? Did you have the same problem or were you able to play instantly? I also read that you need to pay money for software to run it? Why in the world would you do this? Its like paying $100+ for a bluray player for your TV then paying more money for a software to actually play the movies? This just sounds crazy.

If I do need a software what would you recommend?

Power DVD 11 is what you need. Mine wouldnt play at all saying the disc wasnt supported. That was Power DVD 9. I upgraded to power DVD 11 and all was fine.

Since Power DVD costs, try VLC player, its free and plays anything you throw at it, even corrupted downlaods! Not sure about blu ray but worth a shot as i think this player is essential on any PC.

I uninstalled the included PDVD software and installed Total Media Theatre 5 instead.

VLC was my first try. Its a shame it doesn't support bluray playback. I will give Power DVD and Total media Theatre 5 a try. I will give updates later. THXS!
